Excited about new rack!

Just ordered a Gobi Stealth today and I'm excited for when it arrives, though I know that'll be a long way off.

I called them with a couple questions before ordering online - just a FYI to anyone interested; the turnaround time now is currently 16-20 weeks... :Cry:

Anyway in the meantime, I arranged for the sale and pickup of my current 19' Pro OEM rack.

I know I could by a a rack delete kit for it while I wait for the Gobi, but do you think I could juse seal the hardware with silicon or something while I wait?

If you seal it with silicone and use proper mounting hardware that is meant to reduce water-intrusion, you shouldn't be any worse off than using any other rack since the rain will channel down into that recess no matter what's on your roof.

However, for $50, the delete kit is kinda worth it just for the "finished" look.

Yeah it's gonna look kinda odd with blank spots on it for four months. Might have to get that kit

20 weeks (most likely minimum) is a long time to go with an unfinished looking ~$50k vehicle!

The Gobi I had on my 2016 was worth the wait. Now I'm running deleted roof rack on the 2019 since I don't need one for now and it also looks really awesome.

You're very right. Not worth the risk of water infiltration either, no matter how well I think I can seal it on my own! And yeah, the reason I decided on the Gobi over Baja, Rhino, ARB or others is because so many have said excellent things about it; you get what you pay for in the best possible sense.

After having dealt with Gobi, I wouldn’t put any stock in anything they say. Anything. You might get it in 10 weeks, you might get it in 50 weeks. When I ordered mine, I asked for no rise in the front. They said ok, but months later, they hadn’t started the rack because they couldn’t figure out how to make a no rise. Now, in the true Gobi spirit, they charge extra for no rise.

May I ask, did you receive your Gobi rack? Was it high quality and worth the money you paid? I would figure that any modification from their base plans would likely incur an extra charge. Is that not reasonable? Sorry they kept you waiting though. Not very professional.

I'll wait 4 months, 6 months, 8 months. I don't really care. I have a buyer coming next week for my stock rack, so I'll be out a rack no matter. When it comes, it comes.

I love my rack! I really love it. It was worth every penny. I waited 18 weeks and 1 day. I knew what I was getting into when I ordered it. It was super easy to install. Let me know if you have any other questions or want to see some pictures?

Thanks, I might just do that! Yeah by comparison to Baja also, I like that you get the ladder and crossbars with the package instead of having to purchase them separately. If I went for an identical Baja package I'd be paying close to $2200...

I could be wrong but it seems that due to Gobi's popularity there are more compatible and numerous aftermarket accessories for them as well.

Mine took 21 weeks from order to delivery. Don't hold your breath for anything earlier, lol

Home built can be incredibly good but can also be very simple with ugly welds. Would imagine no curve to it for aesthetics and other details.
Hand made through a company usually signifies craftsmen quality work.
And beyond all that why would anyone want to pay huge money for something that looks like it was built by your neighbor in a tool shed?

Surely. That's why I'll gladly pay a larger sum for a quality product. Having seen Gobis and Baja racks in person, as well as the multitudes of factory rail-mountable baskets out there, Gobi fits the quality/functionality/design that I'm looking for. Bonus to them for having their own aftermarket support and they're popular enough that others make accessories that will fit it as well.
