Expedtion-One 5th Gen washer reservoir relo kit

We (Forge Overland) have been working with Expedition one to develop a washer bottle relocation kit for the 5th gen 4Runners. The kit has been finalized and should now be available direct from Expedition One (Expedition One - Off Road Truck Bumpers) for purchase. This is an excellent OEM grade kit that doesn't require modification or lengthening of the harness or supply lines, and increases the fluid capacity to 2 gallons. All the while neatly tucked away behind the passenger headlight. I've been using be kit trouble free for just under a month now with 0 complaints and all smiles.

Here is the kit in its basic form



After you get your parts sorted out, take the powder coated steel tray and line it up with the threaded holes. Install and tighten the supplies stainless steel bolts and washers. The reservoir will sit ontop of this plate and be secured to it with the J-Bolt



Next step is to transfer your pumps and gaskets to the new reservoir, and prepare to position them to be reconnected



When you go to place your reservoir in the location with the pumps, the metal bracket holding the sleeved wire loom will need to be repositioned (read: bent) in order to fully clearance the pumps harness and lines. A vice grip takes care of this in quick order



Now with the reservoir positioned we can work on attaching the top plate. The rubber gasket that runs the top of the fender will need to be removed to access the fender subframe



The gasket is attached by several keymod style eyelets, sliding the gasket rearward towards the windshield will free it



With the gasket removed, place and line up the top bracket on the small center hole. This will need to be punched and a pilot hole drilled to accept the included self-tapping bolt



Take your punch and mark the hole and drill your pilot.



After that, run your self tapping bolt through for a test run, then fit your top plate and tighten down your J-bolt. Check fitment and if all is Ok, begin the reinstallation of the trim and gasket. With a sharp knife mark and notch the trim piece to clear the top plate. Once reinstalled fill with your favorite fluid and check for leaks and operation.




For those with 2013+ models, there is a air-injection pump relocation kit available to go with this kit, this link is for an FJ kit, but it is identical to the kit that will be available for the 4Runner

Excellent write up. On the Expedition One store I see this listed for the FJ with 2010-2012, 2013+ no kit, and 2013+ with relocate kit. Is it the same part/item for the 4runners?

No, the FJ kits are slightly different. You will have to call or email their sales department to get the 4Runner kit until they update their website. I'm not 100% certain the 4Runner kits are available just yet. If they're not they will be very soon

Aren't the 13+ models already limited by the air injection system that rests there now anyway? This looks like it uses what's left over...

Was thinking the same thing, the smog pump is in that location on 2013 and up so it won't fit.

Then heaven forbid anyone that buys a 2013+ model with the emissions equipment there because you won't be able to fit a second battery there either. Sounds like you need to come up with a better solution for aux battery placement

Making new custom parts for discontinued models is a gamble , and since 4Runner sales have gone up every year that's a lot of missed sales not fitting 2013,14,15,16

They are working to adapt a kit to relocate the air injection pump to accommodate the new reservoir. It would include an additional bracket

See above, as well - it's not a discontinued model. They're still manufacturing 5th generation 4runners. The kit will fit 2013+ models with their air pump relocation bracket that is being developed. I'm sure if you were interesting in testing the fitment of the bracket they would like to talk to you.

I'm not selling anything, so I'm not sure how I lost your business.

The complaint is directed specifically at the idea that it takes up the place that a aux battery would use if you wanted to go that rout. Sure, it does - but you can't put an aux battery there on 2013+ models as there is an air injection pump there. That was my point, so you should draft your research and development complaint to toyota, not the aftermarket. Additionally, they're developing a kit that neatly relocates the 13+ air injection pump so that everything neatly and compactly fits behind the passenger headlight assembly.

Further beyond that, placing the washer reservoir all the way in the back behind the airbox negates a primary engineering point of the kit, which was an OEM type solution, that doesn't require modification or extension of the wiring harness and hose lines.

So pick your poison. Do you want the $300 shrockworks kit that holds 1/2 gallon of fluid, requires harness modification and hose extensions, and is opaque? Or do you want the $180 option that retains OEM reliability and durability, and increases your capacity to 2 gallons?

Sounds like someone did some research and development.

Would like to offer a suggestion , since you did all the R&D work on the washer bottle move why not look into moving the smog pump in this location behind the air box . It will more than doulble your model year coverage with the 4Runner and can also be sold to add a second battery on late models so you get a new bunch of customers. win win

The 4Runner version is based off of the FJ Cruiser model they designed, with only slight modifications to allow dual comparability. Their existing air pump relocation kit that covers the FJ Cruiser is also getting fitted for the 4Runner. The concept is shared platform compatability. I assisted with the refitment for the 4Runner - if you want to talk baseline R&D then you'll need to speak directly with them as I am not involved with that. However I'm happy to pass along your thoughts to them

This is where I get it from. You say "WE" as is in you and E1...if I was E1 Id ask you to to STFU about running your mouth like that and misrepresenting us..because thats exactly what you're doing when you say WE and E1....Thats why y'all lost my business.
