Thats some sick whitewater! I got dumped out of a kayak at the head of a long train of class III+/IV and had to swim the whole thing holding on to both boat and paddle. It was day 1 of a 5 day/80 mile remote backcountry trip so losing a boat or a paddle was just about as scary as drowning was. Never been so close to death and so alive at the same time. These videos make me quiver a lil bit.

On a lighter note, how fun does this look?

+1 man. My last swim was a little hectic in some III+. My buddy said I was totally underwater, could only see the top of my helmet for a good 25 feet. Had a little case of the shakes after getting to shore.

That alpine slide looks awesome! sure hope he was strapped in well. That would be a hit if they built one around here

On one of my rides down the New River in WV, with the river running about 12 feet over normal--they said the volume was greater than the CO River that day! In what is considered possibly the meanest set on the trip (Double Z, a 5+ rapid set), we partially flipped, tossing out half the crew AND the guide! I got to guide us out, making the calls until we were clear, after which we picked up all our lost paddles and paddlers. They said about 2 feet higher and they couldn't run the river with customers--we actually put in and paddled THROUGH the trees along the bank to get to the river. What a rush!

West Virginia has some serious whitewater rivers. The New River is a great one to introduce people to rafting--the standard route includes four 5+ sections to whet the appetite, plus lots of 3's and 4's. The Gauley is a very serious river with numerous mean rapids, and even a nice waterfall to drop over!

My backyard lol. I live 15 minutes from the New River George Bridge. I raft several times a year and ride my mtn bike in the gorge all the time. That's why I still live here!

Actually his record for height (23.5ft) still stands and he broke his own record for distance in 2005 at just under 80ft.

Emerald Mile

Ok so this isn't necessarily an extreme sports clip. Its an ad for a book that I just finished. Couldn't put it down, read it in two days. If you guys enjoy river running or reading AT ALL, I couldnt recommend it highly enough. At first I was thinking that the drama was laid on a little think, but this is a seriously epic book.

I don't know why I thought of this clip today, but my brother had the sound clip of this as his ringtone for a while. Every time he got a call I would just lose it ound:



I like Tanner Hall, he is a phenomenal skier and this was an awful wreck, but just the way he conveys immediate medical information before he even stops sliding is pretty priceless.
