factory installed alarm w/remote start

I picked up my new 4Runner just last week. As there is not an alarm in it I want to have one installed and also want to get a remote start.
When I mentioned to the dealer that I would probably add an aftermarket one they said to be careful because it might void the warranty if any electronics get messed up during the installation. They quoted me a price of $699 for the alarm and remote start, or $500 for either one seperately. Does that sound like a good deal? I'm sure I could get one installed cheaper but the fact that the dealer would be installing it and it would be toyota certified would be the main benefits of having them do it. Plus I wouldn't have to worry about the whole security bypass issues that I might with an aftermarket system. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks in advance.

The dealer installed alarm would probably be a low priced item that they'd upcharge and sell it to you.

As far as voiding the warranty, they would have to prove that the aftermarket alarm caused the damage to void the warranty. And they can't say everything is voided only the parts that the alarm may damage.

I'd let an aftermarket shop do the install. You'll probably get a better unit. They'll have to buy the security bypass but its usually $80 and you won't have to leave a key with a transponder in the vehicle.
