Falls Lift Questions

I cant decide on a DS or CF lift

Give me some pro's and con's of each .
I'm going to run a stock size tire (265/70/17) on aftermarket rims .

DS kit is 2.5/1.5 and the CF kit would be a 2.0/1.0 kit.

Is there benefits to each ? Im aware they are made of different materials. This lift would be temporary as I will eventually go to a Toytec ultimate kit. I do go off road but fire roads and and pretty easy trails.

Thank you

Well if it's only temporary, wouldn't you want the cheapest kit you can buy? And from what I have read daystar is pretty much as cheap as it gets price wise, :)

If you're going to run stock tires, why even bother doing a spacer lift? Why not let that be the seed money for the Toytec lift kit?

If they answer is "because," that's cool. I'd buy whichever one is cheapest. They'll both do the job and you're not making a long term commitment. I've been happy with the Cornfeds, but they've really only been wheeling around mall and supermarket parking lots since I put them on. The owner was an easy guy to work with...

These fire roads/easy trails - do you crawl or do you enjoy running with a little speed as your suspension allows?

The 2/1 CF lift would probably look a little better with stock size tires and you'll be able get a little better caster setting with your alignment with 2" front lift without adding aftermarket UCA's.
Performance wise is a wash and you don't mention the cost differences but the daystars are the cheapest and easiest I know of.

I agree the 2/1 looks better w/ stock size tires.

DS 2.5/1,5 looks great on stock duratracs. Searfor user stu-runner his original setup was that adn it looked great. There is no need for aftermarket UCAs with that setup

Here are some pics of my wife's '13 SR5 w/ a low lift Icon suspension set-up (details in my garage). It is not a spacer lift (obviously) but lift is ~ 2"Front / 0.75" rear on stock SR5 rims, Mickey Thompson MTZ's 265/70R17.

With factory rocker panels:

With Shrockworks TE Rockers in preparation for sliders in the next few weeks - the TE rockers really make it look like its lifted a lot higher, but there are no changes, measurements are the same:

I will get some more pics when it's all done.

I would be running stock size tires , but aftermarket all- terrains and wheels. I am not into high speed wheeling just crawling around mostly and normal street driving. Exploring some unknown trails up north .

The reason i don't want to up size my tires to 285/70/17 is that I read that they would rub and and I don't want to be cutting anything.

Then the Toytec ultimate kit will be a very good choice for you, sounds like a well planned build!

I'll get on the horn with Toytec tomorrow and see if we can come up with a solution.

Sorry, I was in error, too fast on the keyboard!

If you are wanting 2"/1" lift, the Toytech front coil overs will work well for you but the rear coils are going to be more lift than you want. You could go w/ the 5100's in the back w/ a 1" spacer or you could get a custom Deaver spring made like I did.

I ran a daystar on my 4th Gen 2005 sport ed and loved it.

Who says XREAS sux?

I loved the look of the lift and still had the great ride w stock suspension. Honestly, it has 165,000 miles on it now and rides like a dream. DS went on at 130,000.

Anyone running an OME set up with 265/70/17's ?

So damn confused about a lift.....

I want to run 265/70/17's (maybe Duratracs or Firestone Dest. AT's ) with aftermarket black rims . maybe if I see someone with this it will help with my decisions. I went through all the lifted pics thread but many don't have a sig of what they have and tire size . type of lift , ect....

Even considering a spacer lift , prob a 2/1 CF or a 2.5/1/5 DS kit or 5100's , toytec and so on .

I was briefly, on 5100's. I had the shocks dialed up a fair bit, but I always thought the 265's looked silly cause they were so small.

Daystar 4th gen vs 5th gen lift.

Anyone know why they changed from a 6pc kit for the 4th gen to a 4pc kit for the 5th gen.

The 4th gen had a preload and a top out to make 2.5".

The 5th only has a top out spacer 1.25 to make a 2.5 " total .

I was under the impression that the suspension were basically the same for 4th and 5th gen. ( with the exception of Xreas of course) which I dont know if the even make anymore I just know its not on my TE.

When I taked to DS they said to use the 4pc kit (I dont have part no handy). I said I heard of people running the 6pc 4th gen kit on the 5th gen . They said thats not the right kit for the 5th gen.

I just think a 2.5" lift should have a top out and preload. Anyone else have the same response or can shed some light on it.

DS moved to what they call an "easy install" kit which is top out only and includes stud extenders. The old preload/top out kit (the 6pc. kit I am running on my 4th gen) is still available from wheeler's offroad.

I just looked on Wheeler's site and they show a DS 6pc. kit as available for the 5th Gen. Daystar FJ Cruiser and 4Runner 2.5" Complete Lift Kit. Great price too.

X-reas is still available on the 5th gen limiteds I believe.

I am not going to get into another long discussion on 6pc. vs. 4pc. kits as this has all been hashed out before, but I think you will recall I prefer the 6pc kits.

Best of luck with the new 5th Gen.

Thank you JA.

You have taught me the difference in preload / top out years ago. No need to explain ....lol

Who's running a spacer kit on their 5th gen. ?

I have a spacer kit that I want to put in for the time being. I will do a full suspension next summer with new rims.

What spacers are you running and how do you like it ? Im a little skeptical . I Actually have 2 different kits. I have a 2.5" 6pc DS kit with top out and pre load for front and a 1.5 in back spacer.

I also have a slightly used CF 2"/1" from my friend.

I do go off road but nothing heavy like rock crawling , but it is low speed crawling around . Would going with the lower CF kit be less hard on the shocks and cv's ect....
~or~
would the DS kit be better because of the preload spacer / top out combo ?

I will be running stock size tires , BUT after market AT tires. Maybe Firestones or Duratrac's .

Thank you
Mike

I installed the Low Range 3" spacer kit last Fall. So far, so good. No heavy off-roading for me, just logging trails and stuff. Stock size Cooper AT3 tires.

If you just do light off-roading, i'd think spacer would be fine. Of course, the fully suspension lift would be better.
