Favorite Exterior 4g?

Answering this question, I made couple changes to my '05 using '06 parts. I was 1st in this forum who did LED '06 conversion. So I like '03-'05 style with '06 gadgets.

I think a lot of it has to do with the color too. I think I prefer the 06 look with the darker paint, and the 03-05 look with lighter paint. White seems to go well with both though. Maybe it's because it picks up the dark accents so well (windows, scoop, body lines, etc). I was originally going to get a gray 04, but ended up settling on a white one. Now that I have the white though, I really am not a huge fan of the way the headlights stand out on the gray 03-05. The new headlights and chrome accents seem to work well on the darker colored 06 models though.

Agreed, but still an interesting value system IMO.

Your reading way to much into it. I just did'nt like the way it looked so I passed on it....I buy a new truck every 2-3 years so the waiting was'nt an issue. I've had a new 01 f150,03 f150,04 Z71 tahoe and now an 06 4R.

I like the 06, not because I'm biased, but because of two things: LED tail lights, and projector headlamps. PERIOD.:

The looks of the 03's never did it for me when they first introduced the 4th Gen. I didn't like the wheel wells, the pink tail lights, and the bumper design just didnt flow with the rest of the car. When the 06's came out ------>

Bingo, that's exactly how I feel. Take an 03-05 and put the 06 parts you like on it

I've owned both an 03 Sport and an 06 Sport. I love my 06 (projector headlights, LED taillights, rounded fenders), but I'll have to say that my 03 was pretty damn sharp. It was the first 4Runner I ever owned though, so it holds a soft spot in my heart! Kinda like your first love I suppose!

I like the LED tails of the '06 models better than the '03-'05 tails.

But I like the '03 and '04 spoiler better than the '05 and '06 spoiler (hate that damn hump!)

The '03 - '05 has a better stance (wheels come out closer to the edges of the body)

I do like the projector headlights of the '06, but I also like the projector fog lights of the '03-'05

Overall, I like the nose of the '03-'05 better than the '06 nose.

I like the fact that they removed the bumper lights on the '06

I like the silver roof rack on the '03-'05 (even though they made them black on the '05 Limited) better than the tubular rack on the '06 Sport.

I also like the silver accents on the interior of the '03-'05. I was disappointed that they made them black on the '06

Wheel well openings? I don't prefer one over the other. At first, I wasn't thrilled about the squared-off wheel wells on the '03-'05, but now I like the look. The rounded openings of the '06 look good too.

I hate the nose-down look of every 4th generation 4Runner, regardless of the year.

Hmmm.... I guess I like the '03-'05 a little bit better if you add it all up!

Yeah, me too. I always figured that this is due to the government regulation for car-SUV crash compatibility (along with the low front crossmember). Or is Toyota going for the "fast look"?? Or is this a way to balance out the 4runner with a full load in the back or when towing??

I want the 2006 18" Limited Rims. Aftermarket rims just don't look right on a 4Runner in my opinion.

Plus, I also want the 2006 LED tail lights and the projector head lights.

What I do not like is the roof rack on the Sport models.

Why can't they make the hood scoop on the Sport a functional thing? Like really make it a sport model.

I like the 06 better, but those fog lights have got to go. A round fog in a square hole framed in by cheap plastic. Giving up ground clearance on newer models I feel was a poor decision. The new bumper design makes after market fog lights very difficult to install.

LED tail lights do draw less power then incandescent bulbs, to answer a previous post.

Previous generations had more ground clearance.

Ground clearance is the same. Approach and departure angles slightly decrease in the '06-up models due to new bumper design.

I'm biased, but when I saw the updated 06 design I was impressed. I always hated the squared wheel openings of the 03-05. Also the new front grill has a familial look from the previous generations of 4Runners. I still miss my previous 97 4Runner, which I really liked the styling. I really regret not keeping it. I also really like the tubular steps and roof rack on the SE. Just my 2 cents.
