Favorite Exterir 4g?

Which exterior do you like better? The 2003-2005 or the 2006-current...

I don't care what anyone says...the '06 4runner looks good! Yeah, the bumpers are a bit bigger/lower and so on, but the look is very nice (LED tail, rounded wheel fenders, projector headlights, etc.). It was not love-at-first-sight in 2003 when i first saw the 4th gen...but it has grown on me quickly through the years...and the '06 model just did it for me in a naughty way!

I like the look of the 2006 as well. The new headlights, taillights, and grill look great!

(I really can't stomach the new fog lights. They look so much cheaper/cheesier than the previous edition with the black plastic.)

I would take only a few things from the 06 and put them on my 05. Overall I think the 03-05 is a nicer cleaner style. With the exception of the taillights and headlights I am not to thrilled about the 06. Just my opinion but I can't stand the rounded wheel wells. And the 03-05 grille I think looks better as well.

Rounded fenders look so much better I think the grill on the '05s was better.

I don't like the new '06 redesign. The hood/grill looks to carish and with all of the chrome it makes the front end look smaller/thinner than the 03-05 models. I like the sharp lines of the '03-05. The 06 looks like a wedge when viewed from the side. LED tailights are just bling and add nothing to the functionality of the truck. I am not a fan of LED tailights.

I like parts of the 06, but overall I like the body of the 03-05.

I like the new Headlights on the 06, but don't like what they did with the Fog or DRL lights on it. I think the DRL's down low made the Runner stand out more on the road. I always know when a 4Runner is coming because of those DRL's

I like the LED tail lights, but don't like that they got rid of the bumper lights. We can't mod them, if they aren't there!!!

Don't like the grill on the 06 at all, not because of the chrome, I like chrome. Just don't like the design.

LED lights...

Good: instant response for braking (faster response than bulb; thus safety feature), last a long long time (probably beyond life of vehicle), cool looking, and i believe uses less energy (not sure on this one).

Bad: none really except for the cost of repairs if you get into an accident.

They both look great to me but I do like the square wheel openings of the 03 - 05 style much better - more distinct, unique, and masculine IMO.

That's exactly why I passed on the 4R in 03-05 was because of the square wheel well. Alway's looked unfinished to me ( kind of like Avalanche wheel wells ) . When the 06 came out I loved the new look , light's , fogs , tails , flares , not real fond of the grill.

My fav's have always been 3rd gen's though.

I agree that the LED tails are nice, which is why I put them on my 4Runner, but I'd much rather have the projector foglights over the projector headlights. The '06 foglights look like someone ripped them off an old Mustang GT.

The '06 looks nice, but the one thing that I absolutely hate about it is that the fender flares are too wide now. When you look at an '06 directly from the rear, the tires are too far inboard of the side of the vehicle. It reminds me of the old Ford Bronco with the cheesy fender flare body kit. If I had an '06 4Runner, I'd have to get either wider rims with a different offset or wheel spacers.

I have an '03 and about the only thing I like better on the '06 is the wheel openings.

As I said, I like both styles but I wouldn't have passed on a great vehicle for three years for a styling issue like wheel openings.

Depends how much someone hates the look of the squared wheel openings.

I think it looks decent on the 4Runner, but I absolutely hate the way it looks on the Avalanche. The new Avalance looks so much better now.

Agreed, but still an interesting value system IMO.

I like the '06 more. If I bought the 4Runner in the summer of 2005, I'd be mad that I didn't hold off just a bit longer and got the updated look. The only change I miss from the '03-05 is the silver center bumper section, the rest didn't matter too much IMO. The rear bumper reflectors were nice, but I didn't really how they cut into the hatch side of the bumper.

But either way, the 4th gen is still one of the sharpest, if not the sharpest looking midsize SUV out there.

i looked at some 06's while I was at the dealer yesterday and I must say I really like what they did with the new SE'S interior. Atleast on one that I saw the seats were actually black not charcoal and the silver accents were like a dark dark charcoal paint. First tiem I've seen this.

Also the wheels on the new limiteds are absolutely AWESOME!!!! They are like mini Dubs lol
