Fender Damage - Updated with pics

Sorry for not having pics yet!

Yesterday I was offroading and ended up driving the front right wheel off a cliff (more to the story soon). The truck landed on the frame, pushing the passenger side fender forward and up.

A good 1" gap from the door panel to the fender down low. A tiny 1/8" gap between the front hood line and the fender, better towards the windshield.

So, has anyone replaced a fender before? :)

This could have ended MUCH worse. I may need to tend to the rocker panel as well but couldn't get a good look at it as it was full of slush/snow.

...Wish I had frame sliders.

Here's the story: Went up a hill (visibility that day wasn't all that great). Proceeded to the downslope (or so I thought). Thought to myself, "I really should get out and look at the other side" but neglected to. Dumb move. Inched my way over the edge so that the nose could lower and allow me to see the other side when the whole front right side of the truck dropped aggressively. I thought I fell into some sort of hole. Got out and realized that I almost drove over a small cliff. Lesson learned. Don't get complacent when you're out there guys. I am very happy with the outcome compared to what could have happened.

Now who has any insight on how to repair this? I'm not looking to take it to a body shop. It's not a money issue. I caused it, I'll fix it. Then I'll be calling The Gear Shop in Calgary and getting some BudBuilt's delivered. :D
 
It may be the details in the pictures but that doesn't look too bad to me. You might get by cheaper taking it to a body shop and finding out if they can just straighten it back out, in lieu of buying a new fender. I'll bet they would give you an estimate for free or very cheap so you could compare the price for a replacement painted fender.
 
Ouch! :( And yeah, lucky you stopped :D

If it were JUST the fender it might not be too bad but if it's the rocker panel or anything to do with the door... Hmmm. Would definitely have to get a body shop to look at it :(

Sliders are like the #1 first thing to get :) Can't count how many times I've used them in less than a year now. Including yesterday where my right front tire went over a giant rock and dropped the entire tire height off the other side landing smack on that exact same spot! The "WHAM!" was so loud the people behind me heard it from around the corner :D
 
Wait. You can actually drive over that ledge? Looks like you'd damage the front bumper on your way down too. Looks so steep! Maybe it's just the picture but to me, that doesn't look like something I'd drive over lol.
 
looks like you could just realign the fender, they bend very easily and can be persuaded to go back into its original position. That would save you big time, you wouldnt have to paint it, unless theres more to it than the pics show.

I love this forum.

Easy fix. Rocker panel is fine. I washed it all down and threw it in the garage. The bottom fender mount moved forward upon impact. I just need to whack it with a sledge rearward, attach the fender and it'll be good as new.

I was intentionally holding off on sliders because I didn't want them trapping the sand and salt. Forget that, I'm ordering them today. Now the question is regular or beefy. I planned on regular, but my group seems to be doing more and more hardcore stuff.

I'll get more pics up from the Nikon later today. :thumb3:

Definitely not driveable. I would have been air lifted out - or had a great story - one of the two!
 
If you are the type that goes off roading frequently, I would not even bother fixing it. It does not look bad at all, and if you off road frequently, it will start to get expensive fixing every cosmetic issue that comes up like this.

You could fix this today, and tomorrow hit the same fender on a tree limb or something.

Yea, and no need to change your oil either…you'll just have to do that in another 10K too…. :behindsofa::bolt:
 
Any damage to the body mount bolt behind the tire? Just curious as it looks like you were right on it. Glad you stopped!

How hard core are we talking? When I talked to Bud to ask him the same thing he basically said unless I was planning to land the weight of the truck on the sliders on a regular basis to get the regular. Haven't had any problems with them in the 3 years they've been on the truck.

Thanks Intruder. I've seen what your group does (CT4WD) and won't be doing anything more extreme than that, as we're basically in the same area. Regular it is! Anything more hardcore would also warrant an exterior cage, rollcage, and probably a helmet. That's for a different rig.
