Fightman's Build Thread

I've read other threads saying 2.75" - did you have to stretch the rubber to fit over the 3" pipe?

Thanks!

Yes.... hit it with a heat gun along with the rubber too... and it fit. It's tight... and a bit of a pain to get in place... but worked out alright.

If you want less trouble... I'd get the smaller diameter pipe. :)

Excellent - That sounds easier for me than using 2.5" pipe and flaring the ends to 2.75" at a shop.

So, this weekend I decided to spend some time preparing the truck for it's upcoming Sport Hood and paint job. As result, I've been working on cleaning up the engine compartment, and when I did this, I noticed my underhood lights were pretty crusty looking.

I forgot to take a pic of them in the before stage... but this is what they looked like when I first installed them:

After:

I had bought these at a Tractor Supply store in Sudbury Ontario. They were labeled "LED DOME LIGHT". I was going to change them out for an LED light strip.... but figured that might look more OEM if I paint them body color.

More Pics to come... after the hood gets installed! :)

P.S: T minus 4 days till I drop her off at the Bodyshop!

Goodies!

I got some Redline Tuning hood struts for my 3rd Gen, as well as some new TRD Valve caps for both the Taco and Mean Green.

The 4Runner is in the bodyshop as I type this... and should have it back by Monday or Tuesday next week! Come on Sport Hood and newly painted roof!! :)

So I dropped off the truck the other day, and found that the hood somehow got smushed on the passenger side front corner. The bodyman managed to get it straight... and I stopped in to check out the progress today!

While I was there, the bodyman told me that one of the mechanics was really interested in my truck... and wanted to buy it! lol! (again... 4Runners are rare up here... especially in this kind of condition.) This marks the 5th time someone asks me if I'm willing to sell... unless you count the 10 times my brother in law has asked me... ha ha!

She's still on schedule to be ready for Tuesday! :)

I bring you... The most expensive scooped hood on t4r.org!!

I picked up the 4Runner from the bodyshop today.... and I'm pretty damned pleased!!

They did great job with the hood fitment, and the paint work looks pretty damn good if you ask me!

I figured since I was going all out and getting this hood done... I might as well splurge another $100.00 or so, and get some Redline Tuning Hood Struts!

Then I re-installed my Engine bay lights.... and revised some of the wiring...

After taxes, I'm looking at about $800.00 plus tax for the hood and guts, $2500.00 to install it and paint it... as well as blend the paint with the 2 front fenders, remove some dings in the process, and sand the clear off the roof, and re-spray the clear in order to get rid of the rough stuff. (One thing to mention, the roof alone cost $900.00 to repair). So all in all... I'm in this hood for a grand total of $2100.00. :\

I'll post some before and after pics of the roof tomorrow.... because I forgot to get pics of the after... and now it's 10pm.

Overall, it's a mod I've been wanting to do for approximately 7years... and although I paid a small fortune for it... I'm happy with the result.

Hood looks really good! I'll be getting mine repainted at some point to take care of the scratches and clear coat that's peeling (non oem paint).

Thanks man.... OEM seems to be the best option in most cases... but what can you do.... sometimes you have no choice. They managed to save my original paint on my roof... only sanded down the clear coat to remove the white peeling that was happening. I'm pretty happy about that.

You have no idea how happy this hood made me! lol! That being said... I'm already planning my next mod. lol!

I'm still thinking about getting a parts truck... been searching the listings... found one 6 hours away from me, local to where my parents live.... for $1500.00. The body looks mint, the interior not too bad... everything works on the truck... including the AC. Only issue is some frame rot... Just looking to see if I can get away with driving it the 6 hours North... so I can start stealing parts off of it.

It's either this... or I buy a new hatch... new rear bumperette, center console, and any other Misc. parts I decide to swipe.

What do you guys think? Worth it? I've been looking locally... haven't seen anything in many months... and what I do find... is rotten... everywhere. lol

Oh! Almost forgot... here's some before and after pics of the roof...

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Also, some better shots of my underhood lights, and the refreshed wiring routing:

Looks Great! I think the sport hood is a must for these trucks. It's not cheap (unless you have an OEM color) but it's worth it. I had my sport hood & new to me rear hatch painted together to save a little cash & no blending. Desert Dune. You should post pics in the Sport Hood Thread that's up now.

+1 on that:thumb:

Poser.

Just messing with you. Looks great! And it may have been a little pricey (which considering all that was done, I don't think it was particularly that expensive), but looking at the pics, that shop did an amazing job. Getting that roof taken care of as well probably makes it feel like a whole new vehicle.

No update... but was grading the driveway tonight, and decided to park the 2 trucks beside each other and get a pic... Just like icecream... it's always nice to have 2 scoops instead of one! ;)
