Fightman's Build Thread

Thank you man... was never built to be an offroader... but more of a vacation / cruising vehicle. I always loved the looks of a 4x4 vehicle... and especially a big fan of lifted Toyotas.

I know I said this already on your thread... but really liking your work with your rig man! Very clean, and tasteful... reminds me of Ripcord's 3rd Gens... glad to see we still have newer members doing stuff with the 3rd Gens. I'm going to have to start back into modding mine... been focusing more on my 05 Taco and Home reno projects. :D
 
Hey Fightman, hope all is well with you, Julie, and the kids in 2021. I take it the house is still going strong as well. I feel bad that my girl thanks to COVID only saw about 1000 miles last year. People have asked me “how much” but I decline each time because she still drives as good as if not better than everything else in my stable.

Hey Fightman. Just wanted to say thanks for everything you've got posted here. It's been of immense value. I've probably downloaded a dozen pics and copied pages of data to a 3Gen "important stuff" word doc I'm keeping. I've had a 98 Green SR5 stock for 2 years. 187k miles now but for the most part runs like new. Does need some $$$ and TLC before I can rely on it for cross country trips and make it comfy as my daily driver. The previous owner for the last 5 years wasn't good about staying on top of things. Was going to buy a 2014+ below 125k miles so I don't have to worry about engine and so I had some more space and power. But I wanted to stay below $25k on the truck or about $30k all in w taxes, a full rack and take care of any rust. That ain't happening and my search radius is basically the entire mid atlantic.

So I'm going through most of the build threads and getting some ideas for a $5k build, though much of that will be just getting the vehicle back to showroom condition and getting a $1k roof rack. Any thoughts on fabricating a full length roof rack? Got access to a nice welder and lots of free scrap steel.

I think I'm going to stick with the chrome bumpers. They look looks clean w/ the green and blue 4Rs and will free up $ for other goodies. So far the extent of work has been to sand off all the paint on the hood and roof and repaint it. Paint the wheels. Replace the clock. Replace stereo w/ a DD 7" Pioneer. Ball Joints.

To do on the list by priority - Replace / Repair Shocks / Engine / Steering Alignment, Replace F/R bumpers, Fix dented front panel, headlight kit, 3d printed cupholders, Full Size Rack, Something / Anything / Everything to make the front seats more comfortable (chronic back pain), Skid Plate, 1or 2 in Lift and new tires, Vinyl Stickers, Grill Mod,

Just a little update on things, as I have been terrible at checking in here.

I still have my 3rd Gen. Been working on keeping her going. New BFG All Terrains were bought last year, and I got the AC compressor replaced, as well as the waterpump, timing belt kit.

No new mods really, other than an onboard battery charger, but it's been a joy to drive.

I don't have access to my old photobucket account, and haven't been able to upload here... But if you ever want to chat, you can find me on Facebook on the 3rd Gen 4Runner Mafia page or just do a search for "Rocky Barbell".

Thanks to [MENTION=69868]LittleCaesar[/MENTION] for checking in on me and the fam. We're doing well. It's been a rough 2 years with covid and such though. We lost my father in-law to suicide last year, my health has been taking some hits... And we ultimately decided to sell our dream home in Hearst Ontario, and went to live with my wife's mother, in order to care for her.

Living the city life now...

Anyway... Take care guys... I'll try to get back here more often... But FB is just too easy to upload to.

I must admit I'm not great at checking up here.. Facebook is really easy but I must admit, I post links back to this site all the time for the wealth of info!!! Sorry to hear of your trials over the last couple of years, when it comes to life, the one consistent thing is change... I've been pondering retirement this last year, but with everything that's going on in the world, I think I'll keep moving forward until it stops being interesting....
When it comes to my 4R, it is the workhorse! This Winter (yes we get lots of snow in the Interior of BC!), I decided to do something about the lighting... I found a set of 02 headlights and I mounted an additional set of aux lights on the front bumper... A huge improvement- Princess Auto had LED lights on sale the last time we went to Vancouver so I'll be mounting those as well for the Fall. The AC is becoming less effective so next Spring I'm going to rebuild it-- I did this to my Wifes Lancer this Spring, the shop wanted $3k, I purchased all the components, hose and gauge set all for $700, and it blows great! The only complicated thing about AC is disassembling the dash- if its necessary...
Anyways, wish you all the best to a fellow Canadian (and someone who's helped me in the past), and glad you decided to keep the 4R!!!
