FINALLY a Cure for Backup / Reverse Lights

I am so happy to finally have a clear WIN for the awful OEM backup/reverse lights on the 4th Gen. Buy this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075K4DPFY/

I had tried another set of aftermarket bulbs and read all the posts here on the forum - most of which are of people giving up and going to auxiliary lighting mounted on or under the rear bumper or other creative places. No doubt you can get some serious beam on the rear by going that route, but I wanted to stay near-stock if possible. I read the reviews on the LUYED lamps and gave it a shot. The difference is seriously amazing. I'll try to take some demonstrative pictures tonight and post, but I'm guessing I'm getting 400 to 500% better light than before. Basically, I could not see anything substantial with the stockers or the second set of bulbs I tried - I used the brake lights to allow me visibility behind. This Luyed set cured it. The biggest surprise to me is how well the light spreads out 360. The way the 4runner lights are placed is just maniacally awful - too small, too low, too far from the corners. Compared to my old Camry, which lit up the neighborhood, the 4runner was lights out.
Not anymore.

I have no financial interest in LUYED and nobody asked me to post this. [though if they are looking for investors, I may need to do that]

Looks very nice! I may have to try this out. I already have a pair of Rigid pods installed on rear bumper but will definitely look into this. I don't really use my Rigid's except to deter tailgaters as I do not have issues parking at night time. Unless it's raining/snowing like crazy where I may need to roll down my windows, I get by just fine with my backup camera and occasional use of rigid's to make sure I'm in my parking spot when backing in
 
Thanks for the post, I don't want to pay a load of cash or modify any of the wiring to get more light when reversing, these look like they will solve my problems!
 
I purchased the 1000 lumen bulbs and these are 1600 lumens, so should be much better. Yes, they are plug and play, just remember they are polarity sensitive, so may need to rotate them if they don't work on initial install.

Was looking again at how good the sideways diffusion is. I had hoped for improvement straight behind, but this gives the behind and the side illumination
 
if you want to have brighter lights, convert the parking and stop light as extra signals, then use the old signals as added reverse lights, this has worked for me so far and I don't really need the use of the aux light I have mounted at bottom of bumper.

even if these are brighter than my old 5000k 300 lumen 921 leds, for my eyes, they seem like a 6500k blueish color that makes it harder to see.

I understand what you are saying with the blue spectrum being harder to see. I swapped out some interior 6500k I got for the 5000k for just that reason.

However, I think there is a consideration here that negates some of your concern as the lumens of the interior were low so the spectrum played a bigger role in light quality.

These 1600 lumens are so bright that this effect becomes negligible, in my opinion.

I was amazed again last night when I got home and pulled in the driveway, put the 4r in reverse, and looked back to discover the floodlight these bulbs were producing. I forgot I had them!

The difference between 300 and 1600 lumens is like... night and day. [emoji41]
 
took another look, my old bulbs are VLEDs 5K White Platinum 921​ rated at over 500 lumens and 5000k, ive reinstalled them since the 1600 lumen just didnt work for me. imo, blue is still blue no matter how much brighter they claim to be. wasnt trying to start a problem just wanted to say that older eyes may not like them, so ive got a set for cheap if anyone needs them.

Without swapping ages, my eyes aren't that young. :) No problem at all, and I appreciate the conversation! Blue is blue - true. I was just trying to share my observations and experiences dealing with the same "too blue" when using 6500k LED on my interior and not liking it as much as the 5000k....
YET, I found the reverse lights with these 1600 lumens were just fine for this application, to me. Its just a matter of personal preference as you said. So the saying "different strokes", and the old acronym YMMV is applicable here! We can all agree at 1600 lumens, these suckers are bright!

EDIT: On second look at the Amazon ad, there is actually no mention of kelvin on there. "Xenon White" is listed. Some of the comments talk about lack of blueish tint, and called them "Pure White" but they are defintitely not warm, they are tilting towards cool, but again I don't see as much blue out of them as the 6500k LED I have used, so maybe they are closer to 6000K.

maybe i got a bad set, mine are so blue its almost unuseable for me, and in daylight if you werent looking at the reverse light itself you couldnt tell it was even on except for seeing the blue leds behind the clear plastic. i think they should at least be offered in 5000k also. maybe ill try a brand with a projector style lense on the end.

Maybe there is some confusion on the products we are comparing - there are all kinds of "versions" of these it appears ..
I specifically searched for the numbers listed in the Amazon ad, but I did get these off ebay (cause I wanted to use Paypal).

I installed these yesterday thinking pulling out of my driveway this morning will be better than ever.
At o'dark thirty when I backed up, I still had poor lighting.
It really didn't make a difference for me.

Wow. Compared to what?

Some very different experiences here. I'm wondering if we have someone selling bad product on Amazon.
