FINALLY a Cure for Backup / Reverse Lights

Installed these yesterday and they are a big improvement over the stock incandescent lights. I back into my driveway and these really help to see the edges of the concrete at night in my mirrors. Thanks OP and all the contributors, just hope they last!

Make sure you were looking at the correct lights. My first inclination looking at my taillights was to pull the turn signal. It’s a clear light housing but an amber bulb. From the outside of the vehicle it looks like the reverse light should be in he big clear area at the top of the lamp assembly. The reverse light is actually much lower.

these are the reason i bought mine and they are definitely brighter than stock, but not as bright as i was hoping they'd be. at least not in that direction. they're bright AF directly behind the truck, but down and to the sides, not so much. oh well, still better than stock!

Well, I'm an idiot and was trying to put them in the wrong spot.

Ignoring that, I can absolutely vouch for how amazing these lights are. Especially for the simplicity of installation (once you realize what you're doing wrong).

100% worth the time and money.

I don't want to hijack it, but....I want to swap out all the lights in the rear for LEDs. Wondering if anyone has done that. Frankly speaking, I'd love it if someone would make a post similar to the OP's post with recommended bulbs.

which lights are you referring to?

This is not related directly to reverse/backup lights, but I want to put a plug in for Ebay seller, and fellow Texan, "fireflyz". They actually procure design services and mftg for these light kits - in other words, they don't just sell what some chinese approximater claims will work and hope for the best. They worked up some new Dome and Hatch lights based in part on my feedback to them because I tried others, including theirs, that were just misfits - too long, not pointy enough, though MANY claims on Amazon, Ebay and elsewhere stated otherwise. They came through. I now have one of the first pairs of the new bulbs, a mid-white color range, and the fit was almost perfect. I say almost only because the tips are not "nippled" like OEM replacement bulbs but they are sharp, not blunt like the bulk of the unusable bulbs sold for this purpose. When I get time I'll post.

Here is their current store on ebay, but WAIT before you order, as I have asked for the new Kit numbers that would include the fixed interior LED's. When I get, I will update this thread and post a new thread for overall LED's in the kits

What I am having a hard time finding now is the red tail lights/brake lights in LEDs for my 2004. Any idea if your friends are going to sell those?

Hey there guys read every post in this thread LOL... thanks for all the info.. I am from Toronto Canada and currently have 2 sets I’m looking at in my cart.. one is the LUYED 1600 lumen which has great reviews and the other is JDM ASTAR 1000 lumen bulbs now although obviously stated “ lumens” are much higher on the LUYEDs the ASTARS are about $13 more .. just peaked my curiousity ASTARS doesn’t have much info about LUMENS themselves but the LUYED says this

Note: there is also a “2200lumen” LUYED bulb which looks more like an actual bulb and not a board.. but the weird thing is although they states “2200 lumen”, specs of bulb show that “luminous flux is at 1100LM” which is less than and the “1600 lumen” board bulbs which are rated at “1600 LM under luminous flux “ hmmm...

These look great. I have dark tint on my rear window and want as much help as possible before I cough up extra money for auxiliary lights on the rear (eventually!).

I saw these on Amazon as compatible with 2200 lumens by LUYED:

I had tried another set of aftermarket bulbs and read all the posts here on the forum - most of which are of people giving up and going to auxiliary lighting mounted on or under the rear bumper or other creative places. No doubt you can get some serious beam on the rear by going that route, but I wanted to stay near-stock if possible. I read the reviews on the LUYED lamps and gave it a shot. The difference is seriously amazing. I'll try to take some demonstrative pictures tonight and post, but I'm guessing I'm getting 400 to 500% better light than before. Basically, I could not see anything substantial with the stockers or the second set of bulbs I tried - I used the brake lights to allow me visibility behind. This Luyed set cured it. The biggest surprise to me is how well the light spreads out 360. The way the 4runner lights are placed is just maniacally awful - too small, too low, too far from the corners. Compared to my old Camry, which lit up the neighborhood, the 4runner was lights out.
Not anymore.

I have no financial interest in LUYED and nobody asked me to post this. [though if they are looking for investors, I may need to do that]

Thanks for the info on these. Ordered them last week and received them on Sunday. Installed them shortly after and very surprised with the light output. Night and day difference from stock bulbs to these!

I’ve enjoyed these for over a year, maybe more since finding this thread, and they’ve helped greatly, but when they really made the biggest difference was with my recently installed backup camera! It works beautifully at night and I can see just as well as daytime with the camera.:banana:
