FINALLY a Cure for Backup / Reverse Lights

Has anyone done the same for your brake lights, or will you need some modifications in order to use an LED for that socket?

I am so happy to finally have a clear WIN for the awful OEM backup/reverse lights on the 4th Gen. Buy this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075K4DPFY/

I had tried another set of aftermarket bulbs and read all the posts here on the forum - most of which are of people giving up and going to auxiliary lighting mounted on or under the rear bumper or other creative places. No doubt you can get some serious beam on the rear by going that route, but I wanted to stay near-stock if possible. I read the reviews on the LUYED lamps and gave it a shot. The difference is seriously amazing. I'll try to take some demonstrative pictures tonight and post, but I'm guessing I'm getting 400 to 500% better light than before. Basically, I could not see anything substantial with the stockers or the second set of bulbs I tried - I used the brake lights to allow me visibility behind. This Luyed set cured it. The biggest surprise to me is how well the light spreads out 360. The way the 4runner lights are placed is just maniacally awful - too small, too low, too far from the corners. Compared to my old Camry, which lit up the neighborhood, the 4runner was lights out.
Not anymore.

I have no financial interest in LUYED and nobody asked me to post this. [though if they are looking for investors, I may need to do that]

Would the 1550 version be significantly less bright? The 1600 is too expensive on Amazon.ca, but the 1550 is reasonably priced - https://www.amazon.ca/LUYED-Extreme...mely+Bright+1600+Lumens+Backup+Reverse+Lights

Reviving this thread. How are these bulbs holding up for everyone? Just put them in my cart on Amazon but will probably wait for Black Friday to order. The stock reverse bulbs are awful but I can't find a safe, out-of-the-way-of-rocks spot for the big round LEDs I was going to mount on the rear bumper. Hoping the brighter bulbs do the trick.

no issues here!
love em

I got these 8 months ago because of this post, every time I put it in reverse and watch the camera at night I thank the OP. its literally like having headlights for reverse. I had previously put in led's about 1/2 of the lumen and they were nothing. you wont see too much of a difference from the mirrors because of the way the lenses direct the light. but in the camera, WOW!

Still awesome here too. I've since installed a backup camera and these backup lights at night light up my driveway like daylight on the screen. :)

Yep, mine are still awesome, and I am thankful for this thread every time I back into my driveway at night. Don’t have a backup camera yet, but I’m sure they will really help for that too.

I've had these in my 4runner since March because of this thread and love them. Just backed my wife's 4runner in the drive way and couldn't even tell her backup lights were on. Ordered a set for her as soon as I got in the house and then got the Google creeps when I opened up t4r.org and saw this thread at the top.

These bulbs are night and day compared to other LEDs. Best option for reverse lights with out wiring in aux lights.

Awesome. I have been through around 5 different ones I have some on my bullnose F250 that are awesome so figured if they are good on the truck they will be good on my 4runner. Nope, not at all.

I got vLeds backup LEDs, very bright, even if the pic doesn't show it. 2 years later, still going strong. Any upgrade from the stock bulbs is going to be a good one I say.

Just installed this morning. Even in the daytime it’s a noticeable improvement.
