Finally a modded 5th gen 4Runner in Fernley

I had previously mentioned that I had never seen a modded fifth gen here in Fernley area - Nothing but stock SR5s and Limiteds.....

So this week a first -> A lifted dark grey '14/'15 SR5 with black wheels off road tires. all trim is grey and driven by a young lady. Seen it twice now but not stopped to look it over closely.

First impression - It's not very appealing to me.....Kinda' ugly in fact. Still not seen any TRDs or Trails...

While waiting for my truck to be serviced today in RENO. I found that the T4R population there is very different than in Fernley (boonies). I was there for an hour and a half:

In came a Trail with a lift and good tires; in came a second Trail with a lift and tires; in came a third Trail with a lift and tires.... All three driven by women and all three had their door sill removed - Didn't look bad at all. All three had a shiny coat of black paint on the exposed frame rails.

Finally in came a TRD Pro - driven by a woman - totally stock.

All four truck had obviously never been too far off road: no desert pin-striping; no chunks out of the tires; no scrapes on the skid plates.......

Out front of the dealership were two gorgeous Tacoma supercab pickups for sale - One a TRD Pro with BFG AT/KOs. One set up like a TRD PRO with aftermarket wheels and Dueller tires. I took pictures of both and will post them here later.

The TRD stickered at about $40,400 and the other one was about $38,500.

While I'm thinking about it:

When I left the dealer after the service I noticed that the "OUTSIDE AIR TEMP" display was reading 61 degrees F. It was really about 91F. So I pulled over, shut off the ignition and started it again - No change!

I thought about turning around and taking it back. I stopped about 5 miles away for lunch. I pulled out the operators manual and there was no explanation about calibrating the temp readout.

I went in and had a leisurely lunch -> about an hour. I turned on the truck and the temp was reading correctly = about 93F. Perhaps it was affected by the service tech resetting the maintenance reminder? It never happened on previous service trips - - - - :yo:

You never noticed it on previous trips. It takes awhile as the sampling rate on temperature is maybe 4X/minute and it goes up in small increments. This has happened to me twice. Both times while multi-day off roading. It went away after I hosed the dust/dirt off. I can't 'splain yours.

Or they are driven by snow bunnies.
