I finally bought an 2000 SR5 4x4 what surprise is that it has leather which I thought it's only available in the limited.

Frame is the cleanest I seen and this the 4 the one I looked at. There some rust In the trunk as pictured interesting enough I pulled up some of the other carpet in the trim and it was clean.

Any idea on treatment for that trunk spot
Was thinking Rustoleum rust spray.

It has 188000 I paid $ 3500 service records are good, has the electronic lock differential.
Only thing it needs is new exaust. It's a bit loud.

The product POR 15 is what he's talking about. I've read it's a bit expensive and application is involved, but that it's very good if you do it right.
 
Thanks plan to treat the frame before winter, I read the instruction on POR 15 kind of scary stuff lol. Respirator and all
 
Por is easy use product,but Eastwood makes lots of other products and rust encapsulators check there site out .if your trunks not getting wet just clean loose rust off, wire wheel what ever and use ruststoleum paint will b fine,
 
I used east wood product that treats frame on inside to stops hidden rust 3 cans
Did 99 t4r and plan on using a undercoating on outside that Eastwood makes
With rust encapsulater built into it for outside of frame
 
That exhaust pipe repair is funny you need a muffler
Other things to ck timing belt,water pump, trans cooler ect there are many great post that will keep u busy with mods/update

nice 4runner! I got mine for similar $ with similar work needed and I feel like I got a great deal still, prob because I do the work myself haha. Plenty odd and ends to keep me busy for sure but it runs like new.

As for the rust, I have a similar amount too and plan to do a correct application of something good (POR 15 seems to be the consensus). Seems worth it because as long as the frame is good, at least you'll have a rolling chassis at 300k if everything else goes bad by then.

Like others said, keep us updated with pics too because pics make it better. Good luck with your exhaust search, I don't know any recs for that at the moment.
 
I am not handy although I know more than most women about cars, I worked for a large dealership for a couple of years. I do know some really good and reasonable mechanics.
 
Personally I'd wire wheel around the frame where it's rusted. Especially around the welds. It's not that difficult to get into and around some spots, and where ever you can't, treat it with por15 or Eastwood products. And deff take care of the rust in the trunk !!!!!! Otherwise nice 4runner and good luck.

Neither did i till i got my 4runner and started reading the threads on this board. Now i can do a lot of stuff i never thought I'd be able to. Currently working up the courage to do my valve cover gaskets.

Nice rig OP. Take care of it and it should take care of you. And leather was an option on both the SR5 and the SR5 Highlander/Sport/Sport Edition (which you have). It was standard on the Limiteds.
 
Plan to keep it a long time it's not going to be a daily driver, going to clean it and use a clay bar and lube this weekend to get it looking good.
