Finally did it! Drove a 4th gen with a V8!!!

The thing with the Corvette is that it has a CLOSED deck while most new street cars now are running a open deck. Plus they are just built to withstand more abuse. Back on subject I've driven quite a few 2UZ 4runners and tundra's plus APR has the Lexus 4runner gx some numbers. Good low down power like it should with a V8.

You will when your on the side of the road for 20 mins getting a ticket. I love having the extra power there if i need it but i rarely really do. You can always count on it being there.

I drove the 4.7 and it was slower and lugged down to pull where the V6 had more pep. I sat and question my man-hood... How could I ever want the smaller, less powerful engine? hmmmm, wondering what V8 you drove. The V6 is faster? Not a chance!

2005 V6 specs: 245 hp @ 5200 rpm / 282 ft-lbs torque @ 3800 rpm
2005 V8 specs: 270 hp @ 5400 rpm / 320 ft-lbs torque @ 3400 rpm

I'm not hating on the V6, I actually really like that engine but the V8 is not slower!!

I love my V8 as well. I tend to stick with the flow of traffic, but accelerating to catch up with the flow is pretty awesome now! I also don't have to wait for a large opening in traffic before I turn onto a street. Hit the gas, and before I know it, the cars are getting smaller in my rear view.

My only regret is why did I wait so long before buying the T4R Rocket Ship!!

03/04's have lots of pep too even minus VVTi it's plenty powerful/fast. I'm sure it wasn't that.

K, I'll jump on the bandwagon. First time I stepped on the gas of my 04's V8 pedal after stepping out of my tired 96 3.4L I was hooked. Still loved my 3rd gen but it was night and day between the two. Still impresses me to drive even after 3 years now.

Tacoma is by default “nosier” inside vs. 4Runner.. Especially vs. 4-th gen V8 4Runner… so I believe what you felt was more noise not a power… I also would think that Tacoma is lighter than 4Runner, so 4.0 V6 in that truck feels quick…
As I have mentioned in many posts before, you cannot compare V6 to V8 (apple to oranges) when both build with the same technology, advances and by the same reputable builder: V8 will always have more power and always will be smother … this is just the physics of V8 configuration vs. V6

I absolutely love my V8. I went with the V8 for full time 4WD and power. The groan of my V8 when revving always puts a smile on my face (except when I think about the MPG's lost).

Honestly a 3UR-FE (5.7L) would be an awesome addition to the 4Runner if not overkill, a 1UR-FE (4.6L) Would be perfect for the new 4Runners.

Hopefully, someday soon, the decision makers at Toyota will realize that those of us with V8s will be leaving the Toyota brand when we have to replace our 4Runners if the current generation does not fill our needs. (for towing power and towing capacity).

Also, what is up with the 4.6L V8 only being available in the Tundra with some funky option combinations?

Couldn't agree more. Love the V8. Had mine in for the sulfer smell TSB today and they gave me a new 4R SR5 loaner. Nothing against that vehicle but there is a huge difference in performance, smoothness of the engine and just general feel. Hard for me to see how that is something I'd want.
