After running several sets of 285's over that last 6 years I finally made the jump to 315's, getting a set of 315/75/R16 BFG KM2s mounted about 6 weeks ago. I also added some top-out spacers while I was at it, as the 883s were only giving me about 2.5" of lift with all the weight up front. After about 1500 miles here are my thoughts:
-The tires themselves are awesome, much quieter than my old MTZs and much smoother going down the road (still a mud terrain though)
-I've done minimal off-roading since I've been tied up with school pretty heavily, but from what I can tell they'll be great for what I do. Rubbing is minimal, mostly at full lock and when flexing - some additional trimming will most likely be done though.
-Going from 285s to 315s isn't quite as big a jump as some people have made it out to be. I've got 4.30s in the rear with the 2000 Limited with e-locker, power loss didn't go completely unnoticed but it hasn't bothered me at all (keep in mind central and eastern North Carolina are pretty flat).
-The tires look bigger than 285s without a doubt but don't look absurdly big, with a 2.5 to 3 inch suspension lift and a 2" body lift they look much more proportional to the rest of the car, the 285s just look too small.
-With 4" backspacing on AR Teflon rims, you can clear stock A-arms by about 3/4" without any aftermarket spacers.
-RPMs are down between 200-300 at different highway speeds compared to 285s, my speedometer is off about 8 mph when I'm going 70.
-Gas mileage has actually increased slightly, which I think is purely a result of changing to a more road friendly tread design
Enough talk, here are some pics after I washed and waxed the 4runner this past weekend:
