Finished the Fairing for my WMW Rack

Finally had time to put one together. If you want to see the progression of the fairing to this point, it can be seen in my other thread:

Let me know what you guys think, I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I'll post up some more pictures of it from different angles with a better camera later on, this is the best I could do with the crappy lighting and my phone.

Looks awesome!! Post up when you confirm its inevitable effectiveness. I have no doubt that thing will totally kill any wind noise, not to mention look sick with stickerzz all over it. Mine worked great and it didn't fit nearly that good! What is the material you used?

Nails! Awesome lol. I love the look personally. I'm still a nerd for aviation anything and that looks as good as any aircraft sheet metal I've seen.

The main plates are all 0.090" 5052 aluminum, and the backing plates where all the rivets are located are 0.062" 5052 aluminum. I was originally going to use solid rivets for a legitimate airplane look, but I opted to go with the pop rivets for ease of assembly.

If there's enough interest it's definitely a possibility. I think you and one other guy have shown legitimate interest in it.

I brought my camera with me today, so I'll be taking a couple more pictures of it to post up later today.

man that thing screams STICKERS!! haha, i love the rivets and what they add to the mechanical look. Any luck on finding an edge protector for the bottom? Is it really needed? it seems like the fairing fits very well and solidly and that movement, to the point of touching the roof, isn't going to happen.

Even though WMW did a fantastic job (per usual), do you have any plans to extend the fairing back? Just because the rivets are so damn sweet looking!

Just out of the sake of curiosity, can you keep an eye on your MPG for a couple tanks to see what changes you get with the fairing on? I'd be interested to see if you get an increase at all. :thumb:

Haha yeah, I think I finally have a spot to put my WM sticker!

So I wasn't so much worried about the fairing moving, it's super solid. I was more trying to seal the gap between the roof and the fairing. I tried to take it on a quick jaunt on the freeway yesterday, but I only got to 65 before hitting a traffic jam.

With the sunroof closed as well as the sunshade, it sounds like stock. With it open, there is definitely a sound coming from that gap, but it's not bad. Just curious if I can make it better.

You're in luck, I keep track of every tank, and I marked it when I got the rack, and I'll throw a marker in there for the fairing install, just for you. I just filled up, so the research has begun!

I realized I never answered your first question. No plans to extend the side right now, although it would look really cool!!

Just the material and hardware cost is probably between 30 and 40 dollars, that doesn't include cutting the pieces out. Sounds like there are a few people interested so it might be possible to make a handful.

for the gap you could use the rubber pieces thaey give you with the bushwacker fender flares like this Bushwacker Part b/w000040-01 - Fender Gimps - 4 Wheel Parts

Awesome idea, that could be just the right thing! After 9 hours on the road today with no wind noise from the rack, I may have to agree with Josh and say it's just not necessary. It is kinda of annoying with the sunroof open and I think the seal would get rid of that, but you can't have your cake and eat it too!
