Fire Extinguisher Mount Locations- Looking for ideas.

Here is the mount from above without the fire extinguisher. The loops are what came with the fire extinguisher that you attach to the mount. Wits End uses the two front seat bolts too.

I see now. The extinguisher stays put, doesn't slid forward and back with the seat. We thought about doing that but with the driver's seat all the way back for me (6'3") and all forward for Merri (5'5") the we thought the extinguisher would be too far into my foot area. We instead put it on the passenger side, seat all the way back, with the mount tucked up as close to the seat as possible. The downside; the passenger seat can't move forward at all. Compromises.

he hits the nail on the head. in the video, it just looks like the surface of the engine is on fire. most of the engine fires ive seen look much more intense than what's shown in the video.

Do a search for Firestryker, more videos and demos . It’s the same product just labeled for other countries. Element I believe is only for North America. I think you guys are writing this off too quickly based on one video that you’re making assumptions about.

Would be great if someone made one that would move with the seat. I'd for sure buy it.

The front seat is now a Barcalounger for Merri!

My seat is just a hair less than full back and my extinguisher doesn't interfere at all.

Not within arms reach but accessible once I'm out of vehicle. If it is on fire - I'll get everyone out first therefore have no need for fire suppression means up front. I mounted my in the back and hope I never have to use it on engine fire. I was thinking more about small mishap fires on the trail or while camping:

just wondering now how it'd fare with an engine bay and the hood mostly closed. should extinguish faster than that demo video since it has less air to get to it.

H3R Performance (pricey though). We used the HalGuard in Baja b/c you would not get the “mess.” ABC in the pit.
Agree you need to ensure you won’t have a torpedo buzzing around the interior due to a poor mount. Buy the right size tank for the application you want (escaping the vehicle vs putting out engine fire, etc).

Agreed HalGaurd, or other Halon substitute works very well and are clean, but they are expensive.

If your looking at a camp fire, get a 2.5 gal water (fire) bottle and mount it to your roof. Then pull it down when you are camping. Cheap, reliable and easy to refill.

A bad mount may result in, as we say in the off road world, a yard sale. Nothing worse the rolling your rig down the hill and tossing your dirty underwear out the window for everyone to see. You don't get to live that one down for a long time.

Somewhere you can reach it quickly from the driver's seat where it doesn't interfere with your driving and won't kill you if it comes loose in an accident.

That's where it came mounted from the factory on my 991. Probably the best place where the driver can still reach it and it be unobtrusive.

I'm still working on my ideal arrangement, but an average amazon extinguisher + a cloth first aid kit do fit pretty well under there.

I also have the small Halgard extinguisher for the no mess solution. My most likely use would be cooking behind the rig, so its mounted in the rear passenger side large cubby.
