Well I'm afraid I've got some bad news to report. Two weekends ago there was a pretty bad flash flood in College Station. While driving home from a buddy's house I decided to bomb through a puddle at WOT. A couple moments later I felt the truck start to run weird so I cut the motor. After towing it home I tried cranking it over but nothing happened, the truck acted as if the battery was bad. So I put it on a charger and went inside. An hour later it did the same thing, this is when I knew it something weird. Checked the air box and the filter was soaked, I mean soaked...cue sinking feeling. Pulled the plugs and began to crank the motor over by hand, it would spin and spin, then it would stop...I mean stop. Then I'd crank it back the other way and it'd do the same thing. While my roommate cranked the motor I stuck my fingers where the plugs go to see if I could feel the air being driven up by the piston...1-7 were all fine. This, unfortunately, was not the case for cylinder #8. After talking to a couple buddies we narrowed it down to a broken rod, which is why the motor would spin and then at a random interval it would catch on the broken piece. The irony in all of this is I have a snorkel on my truck, well somewhere in the install process the rubber piece that connects the snorkel to the air-box was misplaced. To add insult to injury the factory air box fitting was turned up for some reason, either me or one of my roommates faults. It's kinda hard to explain to people that you got water sucked into the motor of your 4Runner with a snorkel....ya kinda sound like a moron. Anyway it happened, it sucks, I'm an idiot...blah blah blah...
So what now? I pulled the 4Runner off the insurance because I didn't want to deal with having another comprehensive claim. So I bought a daily driver, a fun one, I picked up a 2012 VW GTI w/DSG (dual clutch 6speed), nav, roof, bluetooth...etc. As for the 4Runner I haven't decided exactly, as for now it'll wait until May when I start my full time job. I'll either just rebuild the motor or possibly pursue a full on motor build. As for now I'll look at the positives of getting 27+ mpg's and building my credit. Here's the new car.

I hydrolocked my 4runner driving through a puddle too. I know the feeling of pulling the airbox and having water pour out. I filed an insurance claim and luckily got a new motor put it. I know it sucks now, but youll be back in the 4runner in no time!
