And here we encroach upon the engineer vs mechanic, the 10K vs 5k, the calculations vs experience arguement.
A) 10,000 miles / 60 miles per hour (average) = 166 hours to achieve 10K miles
B) 2500 revolutions per MINUTE (average) X 60 minutes per hour = 150,000 revolutions per hour
166 hours (from A) X 150,000 revolutions per hour (from B) = 24,900,000 revolutions per 10,000 miles at average 60 miles per hours and average 2500 rpm engine speed.
That’s just shy of 25,000,000 (MILLION) revolutions of the engine’s internals.
Before I get chastised, my figures don’t tabulate engine idling which isn’t easy to calculate. So that’s why I shoot higher to account for those incalculable portion of revolutions.
So at 50 mph average and 2000 rpm average that’s still 24,000,000 revolutions for 10K miles.
Or 60 mph average and 2,000 rpm average that’s 20,000,000 revolutions for 10K miles.
Have fun with my proposed calculations and plug in whatever numbers you want. I’m just guessing on averages. Either way, 10K seems too long for me. Always been 5K. Half of all that time of that shit spinning.
