First oil change on '04 V8

I have heard of a company had to buy a new engine becuase they changed the oil without draining the oil. The oil all foamed up. Now your friends is not that bad, but even if it foams a little, it may do some damage. Just my 2 cents.

Great thread! I am quite interested in this valve. I have a V8 and the website is not clear about which one should I order. If anyone ordered one for a V8, can you tell me what was the item number or which valve? BTW, it takes 6.5 quarts(US) to do an oil and filter change on a V8. This is according to the Owner's Manual.

You want the F-103 Fumoto valve... I sent a an Email to Fumoto.com, and that's what they recommended for the V8...

I need to get one of these. I didn't realize my oil pan now is a little small so when I was changing the oil this weekend the oil got dangerously close to the top while draining and I had to shove the bolt back in and burnt my hand in the process. Funny thing is that when I emptied the oil out of the pan and stuck it back under unscrewed the bolt again and the oil flowed for about a half second and stopped.
I need a bigger oil pan and one of these valves.

Does this just happen to me? Every time the dealer changes my oil they must spill a bunch on the oil splash guard because even though I take it too the car wash after the change and spray the underneath of the engine and into the screen part of the oil splash guard it will still drip some oil out of that center hole on the "oil splash guard" onto my garage floor for a couple of days.

You should've bought the V6; which has the oil filter under the hood...near the front of the engine. Easy access!!!

I got all of the oil cleaned up. Checked the filter and it is tight and used a flash light and could not see any leaks around it. I will drive it tommorrow and if there is any oil drips I will take it back to the dealer and have them check it over. The oil that was dripping was used not clean and the dip stick shows that my oil is full. I guess based on looking at how the front splash guard is attached that I don't understand how they spill all of the used oil all over everything. Only thing I can figure is they are removing the filter from the top without removing the splash guard (is that possible??) it would make sense that then the oil would go all over the splash guard and drip until cleaned up.

Yeah, it's just hard to know how that oil would get there. Heck, the mechanic could have just been talking on his cell phone, swatting a mosquito, scratching an itch, etc. and simply missed the hole when he was filling it, then the oil simply migrated lower. Stranger things have happened. Can't imagine they would try replacing the filter from the top. They have to get under it to drain it for the oil change anyway, and removing the splash guard is simple. Tis puzzling..

I think they are removing it from the top. I noticed the splash guard still has the plastic screw covers on the front screws. Since they never replaced my center drain plug cover I doubt they would take the time during a 29 minute OC to snap back my plastic covers on the front screws. That has to be it because if you were replacing it from the top you would spill all the oil from the old filter all over the splash guard then they spray if off with some water and think it is good to go. They do anything to save a couple of minutes. I think I will call the service manager and ask him and complain since they cause me a big hassle.

I dunno, seems like it would be real tough to remove and replace from the topside. Then again, I'm about as tall as a grasshopper, so that could be why I can't do it from the top.
Good luck on figuring out the cause.
Talked to the GM at the dealership. He had me email him a list of the service concerns that I had including the spilling of the oil (he said he had that complaint before and thought he had it fixed) He claims they take the filter out from the bottom and then have a power water to rinse off any spilled oil. He answered my email and cc'ed it to the service director and also gave me a free oil/filter change for my trouble. Might not correct everything but I do feel better.
