If you don't like throwing money away... used is the way to go as long as you have the time and patience to find a sweet deal and bargain away like hell.
Then again, buying used carries its risks so know what you are doing with cars or get someone that really knows there stuff to help you out.
I've owned over a dozen cars to this day and not one of them was new. If you calculte what a good deal costs you per year and if you sell at the right time you will be laughing.
I've driven several cars for between 6 months to 1.5 years and they honestly cost me NOTHING to drive. Yes FREE. Buy good, sell good and you will win. With a new car you cannot avoid the steeper depreciation within the first 2 years, payment of all fees, full taxes etc.
Some people talk about financing rates... which are VERY important to factor in to the equation. Unlike north american car companies, Toyota and Honda's financing rates are not the greatest and if you have good credit you can get your bank to beat it or come close almost every time.
