First snow since purchase!

Well first snowfall since purchase and I have to say I'm impressed.

2013 SR5 4x4 stock tires, and it performed great.

I live in the Kansas City metro area, and last nights weather was bizarre to say the least. Around 8:30-9:00 pm we started to have thunderstorms, thunder lightning, etc. rained into the night, at around 2:30 am hail, and by the time I was up at 5:30 blizzard like conditions. Winds 25-35 mph, 3-4 inches of snow (not a lot but add in the wind and white out conditions at times), and some ice down below.

Watched some 1500 pickups spin, an RX-8 with people pushing it, and other assorted vehicles trying to make it to work. The biggest obstacle I faced was actually the others drivers. The 4Runner had good traction in both accelerating and only one slide when I pushed it a little through a turn, however it was very minor and quickly back under control. Biggest surprise was the stock tires, especially after the recent threads about replacement options. While I'm sure there are better tires out there, the stock tires performed very well.

I heard that blizzards on the way to Saint Louis, all we got last night was some gnarly thunder and rain.

Have been driving in snow several times here in Oregon with my two week old SR5 and also am very impressed. However I opted for the duratracs so I've actually been trying them out in two wheel drive some and really like how they handle and grip. In 4x4 they're aces! Getting safely stopped is more the concern with all the hills around here, this and other drivers.

That was my main concern going into today. Mine has the Bridgeston Dueler, and while the width led me to believe they would cut through the snow pretty well the tread had me worried. So many manufacturers are going to low rolling resistense tread patterns to improve gas mileage that I didn't know how these would do. Was very impressed with the stopping... never really had any oh crap moments. My commute to work is pretty much a straight shot but it's hill after hill.

My 5th Gen blows away my 3rd Gen in the snow. Don't get me wrong,my 97 SR5 is unstoppable in the snow. In other words it hard to stop in the snow where as my 5th Gen just seems so much more planted and stable/safe driving and stopping in snow.

Good to hear Jayhawk5G. The same storm blew through Colorado yesterday. Woke up to calm starry skies; a couple hours later - horizontal snow. The 4Runner stayed in that garage due to my concerns of the stock Dunlops in the snow (I have a sacrificial XJ). However, I will be headed in your direction for Christmas and am concerned about winter weather on the return trip.
