First time in snow

I love my '95 4Runner and our '04 4Runner in the snow. the '04 has REVO's and the '95 has crappy Goodyear Wrangler RT/S but still does good in the snow. I have a VSC off switch in the '04, which turns off everything and allows for good old 4WD like my '95.
 
So I just made a left turn and as I was straightening out, I look in my rearview mirror, and the minivan following me, enters the picture, and continues sideways out the other side of the picture. :awais: God I love my T4R. :bigok:

Hell yea it is. Especially since the ABS on this model year 4Runner is WAYYY oversensitive. And I HATE VSC. lol, can't imply that more. Everything is being dumbed down and these teen drivers don't get that experience anymore, I'm 17 and glad I drive my little old 4Runner, I wouldn't be able to sell that thing unless I get another 4Runner. There are all these teens that are just plain dumbass', not only in just general driving, but in winer driving, especially the ones with their mommies SUV/Truck and think they can overcome everything. My GF is a good driver, and I'm not saying that because she is my GF, but because she actually is. She spun out the other day when we had all that snow, the main streets weren't plowed. She was driving at ~20 MPH and the POS Saturn Wagon started to drift (probally black ice), went off the street to the gravel, but the drop off was about 6 inches she slowed down almost stopped, and tried to get back on but started to spin, she did everything right, I was right there, she was freaked, and I had to drive the rest of the way home and had her mom drive me home. Situations like that, yea that can't be prevented, but when you see this kid go whizzing by at 75 MPH on black ice, you can't help but wonder, WTF is he thinking. Also these new cars have all these features thinking they know better than the driver, sometimes yes, thats true, but in my situations they just make the car more dangerous to me.

If that kid didn't have VSC, he would still be a dumbass.

gizmopt2002, didn't you say you are 17? How can you say all teens are dumb asses? By holding yourself on a higher pedestal than them, aren't you doing the same thing that they do by driving fast and thinking they know everything?

I'm not bagging on you in any way, seeing as i'm only 19, just curious.

And how come your girlfriend drives a station wagon where there is that much snow? I would take up payments myself for her to be in a safer vehicle if I had to.

1) GF, not wife, I'm 17
2) I'm not saying I'm not a dumbass at times either, I'm just saying what I see EVERYDAY at my school parking lot and surrounding areas, do you know how many times I almost got hit because they blow stops signs all the time.
3) VSC wouldn't have helped she has FWD and wouldn't have prevented her from going into that dropoff, she stopped, and came back out only to slide because of the angle of the road. ABS kicked in sure but didn't help.
4) I already mentioned and was serious about getting a new car for her, as her mom said she could but now she won't let her, much less me help her get a new car. They did just get new tires, but only because I told them how bald the old ones were, I told them a few good tires, but they got cheapies.

Josh, she was driving because I drive her everywhere and she wanted to drive for once, we were going to a school to do volunteer work, and I knew of the snow and we were there before it started to fall. When we left alot of snow was on the ground and I told her I should probably drive, but she said she'll drive and if she gets scared or what not we will switch, then the spin out happened. I drove the rest of the way home just fine BUT I did notice one thing. The steering is wacky, even on just normal dry pavement,you could be going straight and all of a sudden it shifts to the right slightly which I'm pretty sure is what caused the car to go that way.

I know what you mean about parking lots. I'm just finishing my first session in college, and my girlfriend still goes to the high school that I graduated from, and when I pick her up, it scares the sh*t out of me. They don't have a clue what they are doing. It's like they have their head in their ass while they drive. I have to check my pants after how close some of them get to me pulling in and out of the driveways.

We have a huge problem in CA with people being huge posers. They all try to be dirt bikers like the people further inland from us. They all have pickups, raised, ugly ass tires, and with the front bumper taken off because their trucks have such soft suspensions so they nose dive when they "offroad."

Before I got my T4R I drove a station wagon everywhere. On road, off road, in snow deeper than the bumper, you get the picture. Only got stuck twice and was able to use a shovel to get back out in 10 min or less. Granted, they were 4x4 Subarus. Drove my first one for 4 years and my second one for half a year. Out hunting my 87 GL station wagon scooted right up muddy hills that my dad's 93 chevy suburban had to chain up to make it.

4 wheel drive is great. I just don't think that people should drive above their own skill level with the aid of technology. Passing slow traffic at a reasonable speed is just fine. Blowing past because they can't feel that the road's slippery just seems stupid.

Yup, sounds like my HS, except the posers part, the majority of kids there isn't but there is this one kid with a bronco and a few others with souped up cars.
 
We had our first snow of the season here in Cincinnati, Ohio this past week. We only got about 2-3 inches, but it was enough to convince me to get out of bed really early to go around and test the T4R. I have never had an SUV, let alone a T4R. I still have the stock Bridgestone tires but am planning on upgrading to the Revos in a little while. The Runner handled really well. I tested in 4HI with the diff unlocked and tested in 4LO with the diff locked. I really felt like the Runner did a good job, even with the OEM Bridgestone tires. Can't wait until we get more snow, but I checked the forecast and it's supposed to be relatively warm here for a while. It better get cold soon and we better get a lot of snow before class starts back up again :bash: . I actually look forward to snow now.
 
Yea, it wasn't bad. I wish we would have gotten more snow, but I'll take what I can get. I just drove around my neighborhood which is pretty big with some pretty decent hills. I was impressed with the 4Runner.
 
I'd rather have snow than illegal immigrant infested beaches. I love the beach when I go somewhere like Hawaii, and I mean LOVE it. But here, I go maybe once a year, if that. It's just not appealing. You will find me snowboarding every weekend when we have now in the locals. Most people have a false impression of how CA is. It's glorified by those stupid ass shows like Laguna Beach, The Hills, The OC, etc....
 
Ha, I agree completely. Although I have never been to the West Coast, I would hate dealing with all of the illegals. I wouldn't mind having a summer house there though. I actually like Cincinnati. People always complain about the constantly changing and unpredictable weather, but I actually like it because we see all of the different seasons (hot in the summer, and snowy and cold in the winter).
 
I'm planning on moving to Colorado, for the snow. I wish we got it here, but oh well. People that don't live here want to move here, but people that live here, want to move away. Unfortunately the rest of the country outnumbers us, so more people come here, than leave here. That's why it's so crowded. 1 city here, Anaheim, has the same population as the entire state of Montana. And Anaheim isn't even one of our biggest cities.
