First upgrade, what should it be?

$1700 limit for the first upgrade on my 14 TE. Suggestions? I was looking at the Shrockworks bumper but there is a 4 month turn around time on it. Lifts?

It all depends a lot on what you plan to do with your vehicle, but assuming you plan on taking it offroad a bit:

1. Better (AT) tires
2. Better underbody armor (Shrockworks/Budbuilt/RCI/ARB, etc)
3. Rocksliders (Shrockworks/Budbuilt, etc)
4. Lift (Icon/King/Toytec)
5. Front bumper: WITH winch (Shrockworks/Budbuilt/ARB/Rocktec/Southern Speed)
6. Rear bumper (CBI/4x4 Labs)

Knowing what I know now... that's how I would go about it. Save up; buy once, buy right!

Same answer as to all the other similar threads, drive it stock for 6 months and make a note of what needs improvement. New tires and lifts don't make much sense if you are mostly driving to work and maybe some fire roads.

As you use it the mods required will reveal themselves in time.

Save your $1,700.00 and buy some tires + whatever you need in a year or so. Drive it for awhile to determine your needs because everyone is a little different. Trust me on this. You live in NC so snow is really not a big deal.

With your budget restraints and such, I would get better A/T tires, weather tech floor mats to preserve your floors interior and save the rest for a suspension lift for a lift of your liking down the road.

So I will have a twin... may I suggest a 3M 1080-M12 matte black plastic film full wrap... but it's going to be just a little more that $1700.

Really depends on where he lives in NC. If he lives in Asheville or Boone, snow is a big factor and good tires, with chains, can be needed to get up, and down, the mountains.

Wilmington, not so much.

In between, depends how far north you are.

I live right in the middle near Raleigh. While we got snow this year numerous times it wasn't anything the 4runner couldn't handle. I work for the state and have to work even if it snows so very happy I got my 4runner 2 weeks before the first snowfall. Previously had a 370z and its not a good inclement weather car.

I work for DENR down at the coast but in Raleigh on the weekends for my DJ business. We need to get a runner meetup in Raleigh sometime.
