First upgrades - Stage 1 2015 TRD Pro

In your opinion.. is it worth upgrading the exhaust or installing a CAI first on a new 4 runner? So far, I think the 2015's are a little dodgy and wish they gave them a little more power, so looking to do some basic upgrades to see where that leaves me..

Anyone ever buy larger injectors and install those?

I was looking at the Borla Exhaust system, not sure if I'll see a smaller improvement with that or the CAI..maybe just do both at same time?

Wait for the supercharger to come out.

I have the borla. I like the sound but haven't noticed any appreciable power differences. Which is fine with me.

Search and you will see, not much to be done for any real HP gains. Re-gearing seems to be the way to go if you have a use for it. Bigger injectors? For what, on a N/A motor? Need more air as well to go with that, and a re-map, which let us know how that goes. The 4R has a CAI already, not much difference, not worth the $. Exhaust might sound cool, but that's about it.

Not much that can be done to improve performance on a TRD PRO. It's already awesomesauce. Enjoy it and be happy you got a TRD PRO and not another model.

haha I love it...Just looking to add a little more..I'd take an extra 15-20hp and more torque if thats what changing out some parts would do. I heard the throttle spacer only improves torque and not hp..

Wow, they guys are being nice tonight (or at dinner) :whipping2

OP, most will say (including myself) that CAI and Exhaust are not going to gain you anything you can feel. If you want to put them on for the sound or looks go for it but don't expect butt dyno gains. Also a supercharger is very unlikely at this point. Already mentioned but really the only thing that you are truly going to notice is to regear the front and rear diffs. Just have to face the facts you bought a solid body on frame SUV and not a race car.

I'm gonna save you some time and trouble, if you're willing to listen.

Altering intake and exhaust (making them larger/more flow) will, in nearly every modern vehicle I've seen, increase top end horsepower (generally above 5,000 RPM) at THE EXPENSE OF low end torque. On a vehicle like a 4Runner, the bulk of the time you're driving it is going to be at low RPM, where torque is generally much more important to driving than sheer horsepower. What this means to you is a lack of low end torque will cause the transmission to be more inclined to downshift more often to compensate for the lack of torque. This can lead to excess wear, but mostly will just lead to you feeling like the 4Runner is shifting unnecessarily often.
If this were a sports car and you planned on spending a lot of time very high in the RPM band, then by all means go for it. But this is a truck, and it simply is not necessary and will cause degradation to the performance of the vehicle in most driving circumstances and scenarios.
That said, exhaust can sound nice, but I will personally be sticking with the stock exhaust on my 4Runner after having Magnaflow and Borla exhausts on my previous vehicles.

tl;dr - Go back and read it if you want to know the cold hard truth.

Just a little feedback: This whole Pro is better than anything else stuff is getting kind of old. But, I guess as long as you stay in your own little threads we can all just ignore you.

Don't the pro's already come with the V8 & 375 HP stock? You did get the stage 8 package from the dealer, right?

:snacker:

Good advice, are you saying even small increases such as adding the borla will significantly effect low end torque?. Most of my driving is highway and beach..rocky beaches..

Doing a cat back alone shouldn't have that detrimental of an effect on torque. Doing both intake and exhaust will, in my experience. The 4Runner may be different, I don't know. My experience is with sedans.

When I first got my 4Runner I installed a TRD CAI and a Magnaflow muffler. Went with a muffler only since there haven't been many reports around mind blowing performance gains around a full exhaust setup. The CAI sounds really good. Much deeper and sounds throaty. I would do it again, same with the muffler. Just enough sound and no drone.
