FJ Console fog light switches

Alright sounds good. I'll see if I can check the continuity. Other than that I suppose my next step would be to solder the connections instead of the quick connects.
Thanks again for all your help JustinB.
I'll let you go chill for the night...
cheers!!!

I couldn't take the suspense. Just did some continuity checks on my end. Near as I can tell I wired it exactly as I explained, and how you've wired it. Give your continuity a try. Not to bring in the obvious, but as you said at the start you have little electrical experience, make sure you stripped the wire ends before going into the pig tails and make sure the crimping was done on that bare wire and not the insulation. I can't tell you how many times I've seen electrical not work because someone (or myself) ended up crimping the wire insulation and not the wire itself.

ok will do. I plan on checking everything as thoroughly as possible.
Thanks for rechecking!

ok I have it figured out.
so it was a newbie error (as I assumed) on my part.
I had the suspition that the quick connects were not cutting into the wires enough (the plasctic around the wires seemed harder than typical wire) and I was right.
The self striiping quick connects were for 14-18g. I thought the oem and fj wire harnace were 18g so I thought I was good with the 14-18g connects...wrong.
Switched them out to 22-18g quick connects and all was good.

So your directions were right on start to finsh...
still have to run the 12g wire from engine bay to back and up to lights, all else is golden... (I hope 12g is good. didnt go with the 10g)
Guess we will see

Cheers

Glad to hear it's sorted out. The factory look is pretty awesome once it's done. You should be fine with the 12. That's what I ran up top for 200W of lighting. As long as your light bar is around there I think you'll be ok. Just my 2 cents though. I've seen all different claims on wire sizing, some saying I should have run 8 gauge. Another 2 cents: if I had 240W, I would have bumped to 10 gauge myself. Always better to not cause things to melt, and more importantly, not lose any of that expensive light output you paid for due to voltage drops :bounce:

Thanks Justin. Ya I think 12g should be good. The bar only pulls 150W so should be fine.
I think the FJ switches are perfect. Look like they came there from the factory. Like it when one can pull that off with a mod.
I'll send you a pic once I can get then lit up :flamethrwoer2:

Got the bar up and lit last weekend finally. Been busy so have had to accomplish this an hour here and hour there style.
They certainly light things up. :biggrin1:

The rack setup is temporary. I plan on doing a custom build down the road. won't be for a few months so this will do for now.
I would post a pic but I can't seem to make that happen, don't know why. ugh

Just finished this and these came in the mail... x2
Hence the second FJ switch you noticed.
They are two 10" Black Oaks which I will wire together to the other switch.

Do you think I could just connect to the DAC switch with the other or should I use another like the set heaters?

Looks great!

For the second switch, call me cheap n easy, but I Just tapped all the second switch wiring right onto the first switch wiring. Basically the first FJ harness now becomes the DAC harness for the second FJ harness (if that isn't too confusing:confused:).

It made for a bit of a rats nest...but I don't see it and it kept both FJ switches on the same power/ground sources which I think will make easier to troubleshoot.

I'd wire to whichever you want and/or think is easier. I will say you won't blow any fuses or burn anything up by using the same DAC wires (that's essentially what you're doing if you just tap into the existing FJ harness wires, and I find that easier since the existing FJ switch/harness is closer than the DAC switch/harness to the new FJ switch/harness, especially if you left a bunch of extra wire on the first FJ harness).

Awesome, thats what I was hoping I would be able to do. Just wanted to make sure I wasnt over loading anything by doing that.

Worked like a charm!!
All set up and lit up.
Thanks again. Made this much easier for me...
