FJ Summit 2012 -- DC to Ouray!

Got the post-trip Shakedown done today by Ducmonsta and co. Here's the deal:

1. Shrockworks skids now have lots of "customization", but held up really well. Only exception is one bolt that took a DIRECT hit!

2. One of my rear Icon shocks has started leaking. These are the old-style Edelbrock-produced Icons that have a history of blowing seals. Called up Icon, and they are going to give me a pretty nice discount on replacements of my choice. Now I have to decide...piggybacks ($$) or Omega Bypasses ($$$$). Either way, I really like that Icon stands behind their stuff, and if I were choosing to replace with the new "standard" vs. 2.0 shocks I would barely be spending out of my own pocket for a much nicer product.

3. Alignment was out of whack. Not surprising given the hundreds of off road miles, and thousands of off road miles I put on the truck.

That's not too bad considering all the trails you ran!The skids did there job! Icon definitely stands behind there products and great customer support.
No more misfire problems?

I just had the rear tire rubbing problem that cost me a tire. Still can be used as my spare though.I'm going to do a write-up on that when I figure out the fix this weekend hopefully if the heat allows me....109 here today!

Had a great to meeting you and running the trails Harper! Yeah that was a shame about your rubbing issue; looking forward to your writeup/solution. Since I ran the BG fuel system cleaner on a tank of gas out there I have had zero misfires. If it ever does it again it goes straight to the dealer and I will also open a case with Toyota, but I have gone over 2500 miles without issue.

If you have 2 people driving you can do it in 2 days. I did Indy, In to Salina, KS on day 1. that was a 12 hour drive. Salina, KS to Ouray,CO (via Denver) was 14.5 hours. While I did all the driving and got it done, it was far from "relaxing". I just couldn't justify spending 6 days travel for 4 days on site; otherwise I would have taken an extra day on the road.

Not sure yet what I'm doing next year as I'm working on an Expedition to Mt Everest so that may end up taking my vacation time and budget.

To climb Everest? Aren't guided expeditions around $70k?

Good to hear the misfire thing didn't happen again. I checked my skids when I got to FL and I have a large, but not too deep, dent on the passenger mid skid. I'm thinking it must be from where I got hung up on those rocks and you had to winch me. Really not a whole lot of damage for how hard I hit.

Also, how bad are they leaking? I know you're just looking for an excuse to get the Omegas!

Not leaking all that bad...so yeah, you are pretty much right....
 
You may need to move up to 285 tires if doing Everest. :)

You climbing or just visiting? During my last trip the Chinese pulled all of our visas due to the troubles with Tibet. But I was just going to visit Base Camp as I would not even dream of trying to climb the damn thing.

If this all works out I'll be going to Base Camp on both the South and the North face. I'm working as part of an expedition to "bury" the 3 climbers that are on the ridge at 26K ft. I won't be climbing beyond Base Camp but will be there for media and logistical support.

There will be more information available on this in the next couple weeks, so I'll post more details once I'm able to.

Sounds awesome! Good luck! I would choose Everest over Ouray too!
I'll probably have to do the 6 day drive next year. :-(
