Bummer on the LBJ...

Thanks Brotha! Yea we must of missed you on your trip by a few days.

What a great trip! Well, all except for the LBJ failure. That always freaks me out. As much as it sucked, I am glad it happened at slow speed with few other vehicles around. When did you change your LBJs last? Did you use OEM with new hardware?

I hope the repair isn't as gruesome as the picture of all the destruction.

The repair was very easy, just lots of waiting on parts. Reused LBJ bolts were the culprit. Clean shear on the inner two, the outer two were MIA.

Man oh man i want to plan a trip like that so bad. might have to do it solo though. Fiance isnt into to, neither are my buddies. I need new friends.

Question...How do you deal having your dog around? Where does is he sleep, what does he eat, unless you bring a good amount of food for him? Ive been wanting to bring my GS Bruce with me on some camping trips.

So, It is not my dog in any of the pictures but I have wheeled with my parents dog many times. You bring them food, give them space in your truck, they can sleep in your tent or in your truck. Pretty easy honeslty, even puppies do great.

Great trip report and awesome pictures! Sorry to hear about the LBJ failure, at least it happened at low speed! Seems like there has been quite the rash of failures lately. Looking at the picture of the 4Runner on the tow truck it looks like the Treadwright tire delaminated too?

Thanks, man! I've been drooling over your rig since I got home and especially after the pesky IFS probs. As far as the TW failure, It Looks like it for sure, but the Lower balljoint actually ripped the sidewall. The tread was still in contact all the way around. I was actually kinda happy to finally see the construction of the tire and I was impressed. So as far as the failure goes I pretty sure any tire would have had the same issue except maybe a 10ply or something with Kevlar.

So, upon returning home it was dropped off in the driveway and it sat there for almost 3 weeks as I started slowly working away at it and collecting parts.

I don't know why or how but I have very few pictures of the repair or how bad it was sitting in my driveway.

First thing on the list, new fender.

Threw in a new ball joint, new OEM bolts all around, and a new CV axle. I checked brake line and upper BJ, Coilover and some other odds and ends. Everything was pretty intact. I had to retap the inner part of the spindle, one of them had to be drilled and upsized the bolt (I forget what size). Loctite red on everything and tourqued to spec. I have yet to even get an alignment and its pretty good

Treadwright sent me a new Tire that showed up before I even got it rolling which was super cool.

Back on all fours.

Then I discovered this, both weld nuts had broken and my rack had tones of play!

Was able to weld the bottom nut back on but the top, no dice. I ended up cutting out the upper bolt and just welding the top of the (clamp,bushing mount, thingymajig) to the frame and bolting the bottom with all new bushings. So far so good.

Then came powder coat on my rack, testing for our now available powder coat option for the RMRACKS. Shameless plug!

I have since gone "mudding"... it sucked. This was a trail up the Poudre called Green Ridge. It had some difficult sections, but tons of mud!

The following days and weeks were spent deep cleaning my truck. Dealing with overheating issues, pulling my radiator and cleaning out every fin. Coolant flush, and some other stuff I am probably forgetting. Fun, yes. Worth it. no.

So, It is not my dog in any of the pictures but I have wheeled with my parents dog many times. You bring them food, give them space in your truck, they can sleep in your tent or in your truck. Pretty easy honeslty, even puppies do great.

And make sure where you are going is dog friendly (National Parks are difficult, etc.).

So I finally installed a new winch after years of running a super beat up old super winch.

This one is a Smittybilt 10k that is wireless, I got it through SRQ and so far pretty happy with it, excited to get some pulls on it and put it through its paces.

It sits extremely tight to the SRQ grill in the Addicted Offroad Bumper, and I had to trim the bottom of it to run the wires off the box, I could have also just mounted the control box somewhere else but this was easy enough to make work.

Rock Therapy 2018

Another amazing weekend in Moab in the books. Always goes by too fast but well worth the drive every time.

I drove out with a pretty solid crew, [MENTION=107971]derpiful[/MENTION], Will, Noah, and David. When we arrived we met up with Jim (@_ripcord), Drew, Jason, [MENTION=121903]Black798[/MENTION] and a few others.
I got to see a few people out there at camp but did not give much time to visit as we were always getting to camp well after 11 p.m. every night.

The first night was spent hanging out and enjoying the fire till about 3 a.m. and everyone not being ready to hit the trails till about 10:30. This put us at the trailhead for Gold Bar Rim at about noon with a group of about 10 trucks. It was looking to be a long day, to say the least...

The first notable obstacle was the "Waterfall". Its a hard left hand turn that goes into about a 12ft "waterfall" minus the water.

The approach is slightly off camber and honestly more puckering then dropping down the waterfall.

Rock Therapy 2018 continued...
We made to Golden Crack after ratchet strapping [MENTION=107971]derpiful[/MENTION] 's broken motor mount that we discovered about halfway through the trail. His motor was lifting up about 7 inches on the driver side under torque causing his fan to hit his shroud among other problems. Ratchet strap held great, even all the way home over Vail Pass and Eisenhaur.

My power steering has always been a squeeeler but this obstacle really got my pump going! It's eventually time for a new one, it's been cleaned and the fluids are not low. Just how she is.

Moab at night is such a different animal. Small drops turn into what looks like huge ledges. Its very fun!

Everything went smooth, a few spots I did some seriously big wheel stands as well as an almost tip, had to drop it into neutral halfway through a climb as my tire had no intention to settle back down. just kept climbing as a let way off the gas. Drew was shitting his pants in my passenger seat LOL.

This is where I about flopped, so after I went up I decided to help people not do what I did. [MENTION=107971]derpiful[/MENTION] still did it a little haha.

We made it to the Waterfall around 9:30 p.m. and had to wait for a lot of jeeps to get through it then it was our turn. Most everyone had to winch after a couple tries except the trail limos and the LC on 40's.

I got really close but the front end started to hop and slide, and if I stayed on it I would have made it but I got nervous and let off. Then all the tries after got less and less promising so I winched.
I also found out I draw to much power from my battery and it causes my power to cut out.So I have to look into that.

After the Moab trip my front wheel bearings started making a lot more noise then they used to. They had a very constant whine for about 2 months now but I just turned my music up and ignored it. It got to the point that they actually started clunking pretty hard and on jack stands both had a decent amount of play. Sooo, I decided to get a few birds stoned at once. I needed a new spindle for my LBJ bolt threads, mine had seen better days, i have had spindle gussets laying around for EVER, and I needed bearings. So I bought some used spindles with good bearings off of [MENTION=78892]Fishwerks[/MENTION] and boom.

A pretty simple job, just takes a little while. Had to swap over the sleeve for the SPC balljoint to the new spindle but a press made quick work of that. With the spindle gusset, you cant remount the brake line brackets so those got ziptied. Don't have a picture of it installed as it got late and I had some work to do.

But tested it out in the snow this weekend. Didn't lose a tire or anything. success!

Great pics and nice work with the spindle gussets and new wheel bearings. It's funny that you bring this up because these are just some of the small mountain of things I have ahead of me. I just put the 35's on, but now I need to get to tubbing to get them to clear properly.

My to-do list: SPC cam hardware, TC cam adjustment gussets, TC spindle gussets, install white line LCA bushings, snorkel, (now tempted to do bearings while I have spindles out), and I want to lower my front coilovers about an inch.

What setting are you running your SPC UCAs at? Do yours hit at full droop? It seems that the TC spindle gussets are in conflict with the shock control tower at full droop at setting G, where I currently have mine set to. Sucks because at least for now I am not rubbing, lock to lock. But I am wondering how much I would have to pull the front tires back in SPC settings in order to not have them hit... And if I pull the tires back, it will mean more tubbing.. Haha.. it's a viscous circle..

Good game plan, it really is all different between different setups so the best bet is to just test it all.

Got myself a Powertank regulator and the works to make a CO2 Setup, still need to go pick up a tank so ill post some pictures once I do that and find a way to mount it in the back of pig.

Also installed some plasticsguy duro bumps which I'm loving so far, they really do an amazing job soaking up hard hits and so far I am very impressed. Happy customer over here. Install was a breeze as well. Took me about 20 minutes to put in all 4.
