Flooded my 4runner passenger side!

@oldred, [MENTION=172281]waypoint[/MENTION], have any of you guys changed out the starter? I got the thing out but not out. I have spun that thing every which way and can’t get it through. I even removed the brake line brackets so I can move it as well. The steering column is in the way and the exhaust. Is there a trick? Only video I saw was for a 4th and 3rd gen and it’s a bit different. Any help is appreciated.

Had to bite the bullet and take it to an auto electrical place that I know is very good. I know they are going find something easy that I overlooked. Lol

Sorry guys. Got the starter out and tested on the bench with a battery. It worked. I must have a disconnect going from the ignition push button to the starter. I sent it to an electrical shop to try to figure out for me. I will spend weeks more on this and they will get it figured out in hours. Hopefully it all works out. I will update when I get it back. Update. The used ECM that I picked up can’t be reprogrammed. The Auto Electrical place called Toyota and they said that a new ECM from Toyota is required. There is some data that is on the old ECM that can’t be rewritten that is not allowing the 4runner to start. They are not trying to sell me a new ECM, but Toyota is for sure. Does this sound right? I am going to relook at the posts [MENTION=172281]waypoint[/MENTION] and @oldred provided and see if there is a procedure to wipe the old ECU clean for a fresh load.

[MENTION=147877]Carova Colton[/MENTION], let me do some digging. I don’t buy that ECU has something that can’t be rewritten or reset. There is no difference between the 14-19MY ECM unless it is a 2wd vs 4wd ECU. I’m pretty sure there is a way to reset the ecu.

Looking into it some more. I have a limited and the used ECU came out of an SR5 4WD. Problem seems to be the immobilizer not allowing a start code and the reset is not working.

Update

Just to give an update on my flooded 4runner. I surrendered to the dealership after months of laboring and frustration. They found a short in the engine wiring harness and some corrosion from the flooding. Replaced the wire harness (the whole engine comes apart to do that), gave her a tune up and it fired right up and runs great! The tech at the dealer was pretty impressed that I was able to rewrite the ECU, reset the immobilized and match the keys (thanks [MENTION=150567]Old Red[/MENTION]).
Now I have a torn CV boot to contend with- sounds fine so not sure if I can replace the boot or have to buy a new axel. Thanks for everyone helping to get me on the road again. Also thinking of just pulling the carpet and hurculiner paining the interior floor.

If it's not making noise, clean out the old grease, inspect and if no obvious wear replace the boots. I've installed new boots many times on different vehicles and never had to replace a CV axle.

Airbag light and restraint system light

So my rig that got flood damage on the passenger side has been up and running well since the spring. I have to get it inspected now and the red airbag light and red restraint system light on the dash are on. My son has had it up at college and I didn’t know it had been on for months. I tried to do a reset from tech stream and no luck and I tried to unplug and clean the connections with no luck. Any ideas? Is there a way that I can fluke out the readings to see where the short may be?
