Hey everyone! Sorry, life has been busy.
I'm hoping to do a build writeup once I'm verified to go over everything I did to my 05 (it's still a work in progress).
But yes, the 4th and 5th gen frames are extremely close (at least the two I had). The main differences that I could see are;
Front bash bar is different but the mounts are the same so you can use a 4th gen.
The bar under the radiator is slightly different, but I think all the mounting locations are the same.
The brake line brackets are in slightly different places, but a little careful bending got it lined up for me. I wish I had asked the junkyard to save the 5th gen lines, but I didn't think of it.
The big one for me was the engine and transmission mounts were all different, I'm not sure if it's a 4th/5th gen difference or v8/v6 difference, I'm guessing it's the former, but can't say for sure. Anyway I welded some new motor mount brackets and modified the old trans mount and it's been perfect for over a year now.
There is a post somewhere about suspension differences, it's basically just the hole for the rear shocks is smaller on the 4th gen. I ended up with a set of lightly used 5th gen shocks that I used, but you would probably have to get at least 5th gen bushings to make your shocks fit.
The body mounts, all the rear axle mounts, trailer hitch, steering rack, front differential all bolted up the exact way they came out.
