Flowmaster 44
I installed the Flowmaster 44 and left everything stock on my 07 V8 4Runner and debated over removing the resonator tip for days because its sweet. It was noticeably louder but had a great performance sound.
Highway drone was minimal that can be drowned out by the stock sound systems volume turned up under 20 :guitar3: with rock on it unless your getting on it fwiw. Not much drone at all...
But if you stomp on it you'll know your mufflers a performance version but it quiets right down at cruising rpm. Great setup.
So after driving a week I decided I wanted a bit more sound but mainly wanted to get rid of exhaust fumes entering when rear windows down and I cut my resonator tip off and simply bolted a 90 degree elbow from Advance auto on it to run it out the side behind the rear wheel. Figured I can get the resonator welded back on if too loud.
I absolutely love the sound now. Its not for the shy but I'll tell you most people who just like a light performance sound would love it and most would prefer the sound with the resonator left on I'm sure. Its sounds great with the V8 either way.
I'm 53, my taste for muscle cars makes me lean to a louder performance sound but I'm certain anyone will love the 44 sound. The guys who want a more stock quiet sound will like the 50. Its quiet from everything I read unless its dumped behind the axle as noted by posts here! The 40 is the same as a 44but the 44 has a deeper sound to it. I've had both 40/44 but the 40 was on my Tacoma V6 not the V8 so no fair test.
From everything I learned its the removal of the resonator that causes the most droning issues because that's mainly all it does is cancels out the higher tones which are the drone tones. It will make it louder if removed too. Leave it on and put whatever performance muffler you want to run and then decide if you want it louder and remove it. Only mufflers I know of that have a deeper tone than a 44 is 10, cherry bomb extreme or Glass Pack but then you'll get the balls to the walls everything loud tones too. The 44 is a great sound!
Just my 2cents...Hope it helps: :zoom:
