focal coax on dash?

I don't think the 4 inches will fit. It's tight with the 3 1/2" Kappas.
i really want to do the upgrade, just still hesitating on messing with the car's interior. i live in little rock arkansas and dont have much faith in any of the local car audio places. i fear buying the 4in tweet/mid then having someone mutilate my dash getting it in. i'm also trying to control my spending... i can afford new speakers but trying to resist a DSP and 3 days of installation labor.

The dash speaker upgrade is quite easy. You should check out this link for install instructions and pictures. Also, albeit pricey, Crutchfield does have a very good return policy if those do not fit.

the Kappas are only ~1.5" depth and its bottom still butts up against the heat duct on the passenger side; super shallow in there.
good luck and post a follow-up if you manage to make it work.

Agree. I used a heat gun and flattened the duct to give the speakers some breathing room. Passenger defroster still works so I guess I didn't do too much harm. Besides that, the diameter is pretty damn tight.
For someone looking to go high end, check out Hybrid Audio Technologies (HAT) Legatia series mid/tweater. Not coaxial but plays flat to 18,000 Hz with minimal roll off to 20,000 Hz. Another member installed them and has been very, very happy. He did not even use a tweeter and says the highs are still very impressive. And they are an easy fit in the dash. Very expensive but so are the Focals.

Special "made in Mexico" for Toyota. They had "Mexico Flex 2" on the coaxials and the part number on the magnets. The front doors are just mid woofers.
Next week I will be installing a bunch of gear I have sitting in the garage (ordered a while ago).
I will be using the HAT L3SE in the dash and the L8SE in the front doors with some HT 5.25s in the rear doors for fill.
Looking forward to hearing it - from everything I've read I don't think I'll miss the highs without running tweeters but I'll know soon!

Wow! Now that's my dream speaker setup. With that kind of speakers you definitely should go full active with a DSP and amps. Sound quality will be unbelievable. Without DSP you still should consider separate amp/amps. You need a way to tune (crossover, level match, equalize) the dash to the front door speakers to get best sound.
I have a Masconi 6to8 so DSP is covered. I will run the dash speakers off of the rear channel of an Audison LRX4.1k and the doors off of a bridged JL HD600/4.
I should have a lot of flexibility with this setup, whether or not I have the skill to get the most out of it will definitely be the question.

I have Illusion Audio (made by Focal) speakers and Focal amps in my runner. All hooked up to a Alpine W927HD headunit. Waiting for the 9" Alpine to come out.

how do you like the mosconi 6to8? i couldnt find a local dealer so i went with audison bit one myself. love this thing.
Not sure yet I won't have everything in until later next week...
I'll certainly let you know. I don't have much of a frame of reference though I have never used any others.
I did buy an Alpine H800 but then bought this as well because the alpine needs a separate controller before it will even power on. I don't have any interest in that...

Dont go with Kappas, theyll be harsh. Look around and spend a little more on a quality speaker you can reuse.
