So, after being the second person to snap a steering shaft, I thought it might be worth adding this to the list of things to check during regular maintenance intervals for those of us with body lifts on our 4th gens:
Visually check the steering shaft where it connects to the steering wheel box after coming through the fire wall in the pedal area of the cabin --- just check to make sure there are no cracks in the shaft.
The cause is not the body lift itself, but tension put on the steering shaft during/after the installation if the directions aren't followed precisely.
Hopefully it won't happen with anyone else, but again, it's easy to check for visible cracks in the steering shaft every once in awhile to be safe.
