Not 5th gen specific, but with all the suspension talk here recently, I'm sure [MENTION=51030]joneseyyy[/MENTION] will geek out on this... and [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] will just like the bike engineering.

Nice find Okki! I tend to be going the other way on technology (no price) though. I used to run geared full suspension, switched to front suspension only, now single speed and front suspension, going to single speed with rigid carbon fiber front fork. Simpler is better on the trail! The price of $8K is not bad. Some bikes now are running $1K per rim, drivetrain of $3K, frame $3K, brakes $2K and the list goes on. What's funny though is a 35 year old rider with a $12K bike is usually going to lose to a 20 year old on a WalMart bike. Seen it happen too many times lol. Those guys borrow a helmet then go out and thrash the "experts" on a trash bike.

Colorado riders blow my mind sometimes

It's ridiculous, on my 6.3" front and back Santa Cruz Nomad I can feel like I am having a great day crushing the trail, then get passed by (who knows, world class athletes, triathletes, Olympic athletes, pro riders or joe from the local shop) a single speed rigid bike, or walmart as you suggested. Just makes me work harder for next time. Granted I can usually pass the rigid guys going down hill... I ride a single speed around town to commute to work and such. I might flip the hub for a fixie...

well slight difference.

35yr breaks something, usually your laid up for weeks/months and your out fixing that $500+ part you broke.

that 20yr snob will be on the saddle again the next day and replaced that crappy $99 bike with another $99 bike cause his body can take it and he could care less if he trashes the bike.

same situation i told my daughter going to college. everyone was saying get this awesome bike for 350-500. i said get a crap $99 bike so when someone steals it, go get another $99 bike.

by the time they steal it 3-4 times, your up to the same cost of that awesome bike that you cant afford to replace once.

Went over the bars HARD on Saturday. 7 stitches and a ton of rash, but no broken bones (yay).

All this on a technical XC run after successfully not killing myself doing DH in Colorado last week....

I am all about the minimalist ride as well. I can destroy some of my friends on their 5K bikes on my single speed, others I struggle to keep up on the downhill sections. [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] are you changing out the fork on your rig?

Glad to see so many avid and knowledgable mtn bikers on here. My buddy and I brought our 29ers to the 5th gen meet at the cove last year and I felt like we were being looked at like we had 2 heads. Mtn biking was my first love of offroad recreation. That hobby has unfortunately taken a back seat to my 4runner addiction lately. My bike is sitting in the garage with a seized up rear brake at the moment and no funds to fix it! This thread just made me remember how much I miss riding my bike and how you can by a friggin Harley for what some bikes cost! I got a deal and paid $750 for my Motobecane Fanton Pro 29er. Cheap/light frame with $3k worth or components....don't know how they do it!

I miss driving my 4Runner but I love riding out here. Much better than NJ!!! Portland and Seattle the next two weeks. Ride and then ride some more...

The SB-66 is SWEET! Have you ridden one? I still race a little XC, so I'm on a Blur XCc. I'm thinking about a longer travel all mtn bike though. The SB-66 would fit that bill nicely!

Favorite places, all of them! I love all the trails. My favorites are Lair of the Bear, Picture Rock, Hall and White Ranch, Cent Cone, Waterton Canyon, and the list goes on. I know, they get crowded, but I love them all!

I haven't yet. I've got a pretty nice Felt Edict Pro so I'm going to keep it until it breaks but I really want that Yeti haha.

LOTB is pretty nice but I haven't hit any of the others you mentioned. We should definitely get out and ride sometime. I'm not in great shape at the moment so I gotta get my legs back.
