I just bought a new 4runner last night, but I almost got a 2011 pilot instead, it came down to the wire. Pilot has 1.9% and I got 3.75% on the 4R (both for 60mos). I was going to get an all black Pilot LX for invoice, about $26,200. Black cause you don't see all the black mirrors and side strips on the LX model. My heart and history is with Toyota though, and I love the blizzard pearl white especially cause I park outside. So I got an SR5 with basically only the bluetooth radio and cargo net and crossbars for $500 under invoice, an even $29k + tax/lic. The last thing that swayed me is the forums. The guys on piloteers.org are a bunch of dweebs talking about lame things, i much better related to the guys on this forum lifting and off-roading and modding etc. No regrets so far with 30 miles on the odo! I bet I get better gas mileage than a pilot too, deeper research lead towards those pigs gettting 13-14 MPG in the city whereas the 4R will prob get 16-17. I was able to fit two cars seats in the back, with room for a 3rd adult, so I didn't need a 3rd row after all. I'll post pics of that soon.
For those who considered a Pilot, what made you choose a 4Runner instead?

Bought a new 2003 Pilot and am still driving it until my 2011 TE comes in. Over the last 8 years its been very reliable, economical, and comfortable. Just like driving an Accord, except for your height above the ground. I've found it to be unstoppable in snow as long as there's a reasonable amount of tread on the tires. Its taken me up some trails it wasn't really designed for, but it took some careful driving to do so. And that's why I'm switching to the 4R. Every time I looked at the rocks on the trail I wondered which one would crumple the unprotected underside of the Pilot, stranding me in the middle of nowhere. And that exhaust, the way it hangs there in the open... How I kept from pinching that thing between a rock and the sub frame I'll never know. If you never go off road, meaning paved or gravel or that two tire track through the pasture, the Pilot will work fine for you. But if your going off road, I'd think twice, especially since the new Pilots are even less off road capable than the old ones.

I test drove Pilot twice and was impressed with the ride quality. However, I was disappointed with the interior quality.
My last car was a 2005 pilot and was a good car. i live in Arizona and head to the mountains on most weekends btw 135000 on he pilot when it was traded in on a 2011 trail w/kdss. the pilot was safe reliable city car with good snow and light off road ability. just was never very sure after a good rain if the mud and ruts would be much for a awd. the 4runner is a truck not a high profile car w/awd. i gave up some luxury items going with the trail but i wanted all the 4x4 i could buy. i can mod the rest.
