For those who have disconnected their batteries...

After restoring power have you noticed that a few things don't work initially, like the rear wiper and the rear hatch lock mechanism? Using the transmitter to cycle the door locks restored rear hatch operation and rolling the rear window down and back up made the rear wiper work again. Is this in the service manual somewhere? I just spent the last several hours tearing my fuse block apart trying to fix the "problem" with my rear wiper, only to realize I was the only problem. Oh well, at least I have some super exciting pictures of my fuse block now...

The reason this happened is because the computer has to reset itself. The rear wiper is set to make sure it only goes off when the window is up, and when you pull the battery off and put it back on it doesn't know the position of the window. When you reset it by putting it down all the way and bringing it back up, it can keep track of its position from there on out. Same thing goes for the power windows. Everytime you pull out the battery you have to put the window all the way down and all the way back up again before the auto-down function works.

Right, that's what I assumed after I noticed that moving the window up and down fixed it. It was the only explanation I could think of. What I'm wondering is if anyone has come across procedures or comments in the owner's or service manuals pertaining to battery disconnect / reconnect. I can't seem to find anything.

Sure, on page 28 of the 2004 US Manual for the Power Back Window:

If the battery is disconnected or run down the power back window may not operate automatically and the jam protection function will not funtion correctly after you reconnect, replace or recharge the battery. In any cases you should normalize the power back window switch.

To normalize the power back window.

1. Push the "V" (down) switch and lower the window halfway.

2. Pusth the "^" (up) switch until the window closes and hold the wswitch down for a second.

Make sure the window opens and closes automatically. If the power back window cannot be operated properly, have it checked by your Toyota Dealer.

Rear hatch can be found on page 31, page 38 for the moon roof.

I have RTFM but the FM is 400 pages long and I don't have a photographic memory. The problem with FM page 31 is that it's not where a person would normally look to troubleshoot their rear wiper. FM page 130 (wipers) doesn't mention power disconnects, or rear window normalization.

Why would you disassemble your fuse block? Wouldn't the dealership be the place to go for a fix in the event of an electrical malfunction in a vehicle still under warranty?

What if you broke part of it? How expensive is a fuse block? Or the PCB in the pic?

The Body ECU / fuseblock is where the problem appeared to be. As for the dealership, only as a last option. After the "alignment job" they did, I'll do anything to keep them away from my 4Runner.

Me? Break stuff? Sure it's possible, I guess I'm just willing to take the risk. I'm sure getting a new one would be quite expensive so hopefully I could have pulled one from a junkyard or something.

I'm new and can't seem to post. I replaced the battery bon my 2015 SR5. After this I was able to clock all windows EXCEPT for the driver window. It will not roll down. Only up. If I hold the button in the up position it will automatically roll down about 3". No more. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. All the other windows clocked just fine. But the driver side will not roll down at all
