Yeah I switched it to PA. The only thing I can think is that I have a faulty speaker. Should I stick with the Uniden in that case?
 
let me rephrase: any brand of cheaper PA is not going to have enough power to sound loud. I've had several until I finally just got a wolo PA system. now that thing sounds like a cop car's.
 
The PA portion of a CB radio is primarily there so that you can hear your CB traffice when outside your vehicle. As mentioned, they are very weak and do not provide enough power to heard as an "address" system. They are what they are, nothing more.
 
I had a PA in my 3rd gen and it was hooked to a Cobra, worked great. I hooked it up to a 100W loudspeaker from Radio Shack and it was LOUD. No amp needed for me. I had trouble hooking up the speaker wire to the connector that plugs into the CB.
You need to make sure you connected the wires correctly, it's easy to get the + and ground mixed up and accidently solder them together as well. I'd double check that first before you think something is wrong with it....

the speaker may have been 100w, but cb only pushes FOUR watts. therefore I think your full of crap
 
Well I borrowed another CB speaker from a friend. This leaves me to believe that the wire I'm using to connect the speaker to the PA isnt working. What do you guys use? I need something that goes from speaker wire to a headphone jack.

I used a speaker wire, probably 16 ga, if I remember correctly. The connecter from the speaker wire to the back of the CB is from Radio Shack.

Those two appear to be the same but I used one that looked just like those. I'd have to see it to be sure, but when you have it in hand, you unscrew the jack and it comes apart and shows the connections inside to which you solder on the +/- leads onto.

You probably have two plugs you can plug into. On would be an external speaker and the other for a PA. Is it plugged into the right place?

If so then I would say you got a bad PA.

You probably have to places you could plug your PA into. On would be an external speaker and the other for a PA. Is it plugged into the right place?

If so then I would say you got a bad PA, or got a bad plug or maybe you messed up the wiring. Or possibly you PA has to have power running to it.

That means it pushes 4 watts for transmitting a signal. You can easily have an amp pushing a PA, there will be some sort of amp in a PA. If the CB was pushing even 4 watts of power out of the PA plug then you could plug a regular speaker and hear it like you could with a external speaker plugged in.
I can raise and lower the lower the volume, on my PA, to an extent using the gain control, but still not enough power to push a regular speaker.

PA means Public Address, it is for amplify you voice so other can hear you. If your PA is broadcasting you CB traffic that is just the signal bleeding over.

A public address system (PA system) is an electronic amplification system with a mixer, amplifier and loudspeakers, used to reinforce a sound source, e.g., a person giving a speech, a DJ playing prerecorded music, and distributing the sound throughout a venue or building.
