Found a TE - Questions/Help Please?

In March of 2010, I paid $38.9k for a loaded TE with remote start that had to be placed as a preference request because they had none on the west coast. Later that summer, someone here posted a $37.5 purchase price for the same truck without remote start. Up until the earthquake, most people were getting similar deals.

I had to place a $500 deposit once the price was negotiated, knowing the wait might be up to 90 days. It arrived in 19 days but that was more luck than anything. My point is that Toyota needs to sell cars, now more than ever. US dealers may be trying to wring every dollar out of "rare" models, but I guarantee they are delivering the same BS on any model shipped from Japan, whether it be the Prius or the Lexus GX or even the lowly Scion tC because consumers here have no way to prove otherwise. But there is no reason for you to play their game. Save yourself the frustration and negotiate via email with several dealers, give them the number you want to pay and let them fight for your business. It worked for me.

39,400 is way more than 500 over invoice for a TE with NAV. That's close to MSRP for that package. It must also have KDSS for that price? in which case it's more reasonable but certainly not great either. If your dealer is telling you 39.4k is 500 over invoice for Nav only package they are lying through their teeth.

Yes, it includes KDSS and everything else below. The TE's with Nav come with KDSS, at least that is what I have been told. I want KDSS anyways so it doesn't really matter to me, but does your TE w/ Nav not have KDSS? If not, did you not want it?

Package(s):
F TE TRAIL GRADE
P CF Carpet Floor Mat & Cargo Mat
CP CONVENIENCE PACKAGE: (sunroof etc)
F FE 50 State Emissions
F KD Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS)
F ND Voice-Activated NAV system Touch-Screen

It's probably ~ $1000 over true invoice, but that dealer is probably counting dealer fees as part of the MSRP. List for my truck was 42,647.00, MSRP 42,178, invoice 38,575.

39.4k is definitely not sticker for that vehicle, though

Thanks. How do you find the true invoice price of a vehicle? When people talk about invoice, do they usually include the regional ad fees and destination fees? I checked with my dealer and the only thing not included in my price quote of 39,400 from my dealer was TTL.

True invoice is probably not the correct term, b/c it doesn't include the holdback, etc. but the best I can find is listed invoice (which is available on costco auto, edmunds, etc.)

EDIT: BTW the invoice price doesn't usually include doc fee, transportation fee, etc. Things like holdback are never listed, so it's hard to know what the dealer's true cost of the car actually is.

Oh well, they probably sold the TE over the weekend anyway but who knows.

Was this the Trail at Stevinson West? If so it was still there at 5pm on Saturday. My wife and I drove it and we were both impressed. The salesmen was horrible and it was purely a fact finding trip on our part so we didn't talk numbers at all.

That Magnetic Gray gets pretty damn hot when sitting out in the sun though!

KDSS and Nav are two seperate options - check the toyota website too see how much each one costs. That's price makes more sense with KDSS. 1k over invoice sounds about as good a deal as you'll get currently.

I went to a dealer in my area and they're not budging on the TE, $300 below MSRP. Also, the limited they said only $1,000 off MSRP. Too bad cause I was ready to purchase the car.

Glad I bought my TE days before the Tsunami for 31700 ish, msrp 37085.00. I still have not seen one on the road since I bought it in March. I have driven in Mass, NH, Maine......none around on the road.
I saw (2) 2010 TE's and (1) 2011 TE on Oahu when I was there for two weeks.

They love the 4Runners on that island, probably the most popular SUV?

I also saw a FJ Cruiser police vehicle. Now THAT looked pretty cool.

You can get a TE with no KDSS and no Nav. You can get a TE with KDSS and no Nav. You CANNOT get a TE with Nav and no KDSS. They simply don't make them, just as every TE comes with a sunroof and a sliding tray. that may change with a mid-cycle refresh, but the ordering guide is clear on what comes with what.

I beg to differ. I just purchased a TE with a NAV and no KDSS 5 weeks ago.

Paid $800-ish over invoice last month in Bozeman, MT for a mag gray TE with KDSS and all weather mats. They also bought me a plane ticket to come pick it up.

Supply on 4Runners isn't expected to improve for a few more months but some dealers will still negotiate. If you are set in buying a TE and want to buy now drop me a PM for lots of details on why and how we bought ours from an out of state dealer and got a great deal.

Still have the sticker? I would love to see its options list.

Sure, I have a scanner by my desk..

They call it a "voice activated Touch Screen DVD System with backup Cam" but it's a full voice activated Navi unit.

I just bought a TE yesterday and found one site very useful for pricing. Check out New Cars Pricing and Comparisons Local, Regional and National Car Price Reports at TrueCar to get some useful hints of where to start with pricing. As with most things, price is dependent on supply and demand. Overall the demand for the TE is much less than for the SR5 and Limited, so the supply has been limited purposefully by Toyota. Near me, most TEs sell within a few days of arriving on a lot, so the dealers are not anxious to deal on them as much as the other vehicles. There are, however, about 70 dealers within 100 miles of me--this gave me some leverage. I found that dealing with the internet fleet manager by email at each place was a lot less painful than the traditional route of showing up on the lot and haggling over price. If you email them and tell them exactly what you want and tell them you are working with several dealers, one should step up and offer you a good price.

Cheers,
Greg

I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just genuinely confused. The option code "ND", as opposed to the option code "NV" for just the Nav unit, indicates the KDSS as part of the option package. It's there on my window sticker and it's there only every other similarly equipped TE I have ever seen. I stand corrected about my claim but...

Did you check out your sway bars yet?

Oh I didn't take it that way don't worry! I had the sticker out anyway because the link you posted had me wondering about what I bought. As you point out the option codes aren't adding up.

I didn't check the sway bars but if KDSS was installed would there also be a button in the cockpit to release the sway bars when off road?
the options price of 2,400 seems a little on the low side for Nav and KDSS so that much seems right for just the Nav unit.

No, it's a passive option. There will be some lines running to the reservoir along the frame and thick black sway bars. I'll see if I can find a pic.

Beakerbox: You have a very unusual TE. I was under the same impression as SeattleMike, namely that all TE with Nav also have KDSS. Were you looking for a Nav without KDSS or did you just happen to find this one on a lot? Which dealer?
