Found my 3rd Gen 4R

Wasn't really planning on it, but I'm going to be replacing the valve cover gaskets here in the next week or two. They're not leaking terribly, but I can tell they've been leaking for a long while as there is dried (and even some fresh) oil down the sides of the engine.

That and I'm losing my place to wrench when I move, so might as well do that difficult stuff while I still have a place to work.

I am in kzoo some of the time, its where i like to wrench as my apt is gravel. I have tons of parts, tools wrench space if need. I need to do my valve covers too, just waiting fo the supercharger to show up before i start.

That is a clean 4Runner for the age. I think you will be happy with it. If it has been 5 years since a T-Belt job you might want to consider it or at least really look at the belt and see if it is starting to crack at all or wear. if not then I would leave it if wear then change it out. I want to say the age to change it is every 36 month if it doesn't reach mileage? I would have to look it up again. Great find again.

I may take a look, but I'm sure it's good to go for another 50,000 miles or so. I don't think the service interval for timing belts is 36 months, seeing as how it takes most people years to reach that 90,000 mile change interval.

In other news, I came this close to ordering all of the lift stuff I want from Toytec to take advantage of their Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, but I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a truck I haven't even put any miles on yet. That and with the move coming up, I should save my money.

Oh, and does anyone have a Millenium Silver 01-02 Sport Grill they want to part ways with? I like the satoshi grills, but I like the Sport Grills even better.

Went to replace all 3 of my drivebelts this weekend. All went well until I went to tighten the nut that holds the AC pulley on and it snapped. So I put it back together without AC for the mean time, and ended up having to order the entire assembly (including pulley) from Toyota. I decided that while I have it up on the lift again I'm going to do the differential breather extension, so I ordered the two fittings I needed at the same time.

I was wondering why after heating the bejesus out of this thing I couldn't get the remaining threads out...and today I found out when I went to Toyota..and that's because it's a stud not a bolt. :yuck:

Thanks! The driver's seat bottom has been re-upholstered, so I'm sure it was blown out at one point in it's life.

Nice Runner! Good to get the maintenance done first too.

I'd keep a close eye on the frame. Looking at the pics, I'd be willing to bet that it was painted.

I'll let you know how it goes. Inspection revealed it needs a radiator. I used that to negotiate a bit. Not sure what shape the XREAS will be in. May need up yanking it for Bilsteins.

For those that are curious, the AC tensioner pulley and assembly cost me ~$70. I'll be installing that and the new belt this weekend (finally).

At the same time I picked up all of the necessary stuff to do the diff breather extension and will be completing that.

And then I did this...



I really wanted to order a lift, but my brakes are already ever so slightly warped, and with me towing a uhaul trailer from Michigan to Arizona in 3 weeks, I figured I better fix the brakes and do it right the first time. Fun stuff can come later.

Got all of this pretty stuff in from Rock Auto today...one day after I ordered it. Good on ya' Rock Auto!

I'm not crazy on the pads, there's a lot of real estate on the backing plate that isn't being used by the pad material, but they're nice ceramic pads that I'll give a shot at.

Tundra brake upgrade and differential breather mod done today.

I've been smelling burnt oil ever since I replaced my valve cover gaskets a few weeks ago, and today I found out why. I must've overtightened the bolts, because the driver's side cover on the bolt closest to the alternator has a nice hairline crack in it.....

So if anyone has a functioning driver's side valve cover they want to sell me, I'd be grateful.

Looks like you'll be ready for the journey West! I tow a lot and as far as I'm concerned, the TBU is a must. As far as the valve cover is concerned, you shouldn't have a problem finding one at a wrecker cheap. Great truck! Good luck on your trip West!

Thank you, I appreciate that! I can't wait to get this poor truck out of the salt. It's already caked on everything, but it's inevitable in the Midwest.
