Found my 3rd Gen 4R

Alright guys, I'm in need of some help rather quickly. I tore the truck apart again tonight to replaced the cracked driver's side valve cover. Got everything apart, replaced the valve cover, and then put everything back together and did an oil change. I went to start it to check the oil level and it starts for about 1 second, and then dies. It won't start again if you try to start it until you cycle the key. As far as I can tell, everything is hooked up (MAF, TPS, etc), and I'm about 99% sure I remember to hook up the injector harnesses that I unplugged on the driver's side, so I am stuck at this point. I REALLY don't want to tear the damn thing apart for a 3rd time, but it looks like that's what I'm going to have to do tomorrow.
 
So I've been out here in the wild wild west for about 2 weeks now. The truck really didn't give me too many issues pulling a trailer cross-country other than running it out of gas in North Platte, NE and blowing a radiator cap in Castle Rock, CO.

The gas thing was especially surprising as the gauge still showed somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 tank. I called the local Toyota dealer in North Platte and the first thing she asked me was if I was towing a trailer, which I was. I guess something about the way the gas sits in the tank with weight on the back end makes the gauge read incorrectly. I had to walk ~1.5 miles round trip while it was about 5° outside to get a gas can from Advance Auto, then filled it up and it was good to go. So that's an FYI for any of you planning on taking a long road trip and you're going to be towing.

I just had the front windows tinted this morning by a mobile guy here in Phoenix, and this weekend the running boards are coming off finally. I will grab some photos then.

Oh, and suspension will be ordered soon..... :bounce:
 
Finally got around to ordering suspension. It took me FOREVER to figure out what exactly I wanted to do. I was torn between a 2" or going a full 3", but ended up settling on a 2" lift so I don't have to dick around with panhard relocation brackets and differential drops (though I may still do that down the road). I ended up going with 881s over 880s because I plan on adding an ARB bumper to it.

 
Along with the suspension updates, here's a few photos of the truck's current state. I removed the running boards yesterday, and then had the front windows tinted 20% earlier this week.

I had some moron back into me while I was at Chick-Fil-A getting lunch a little over a week ago, and then took off. I unfortunately still have a Michigan insurance policy (which is a no fault state), so even though there was a witness that got the plate number, it doesn't do me any good. Oh well, it's not terrible damage, but enough to still piss me off.







 
I think you will enjoy the 881/906 coils - especially if you tow anything else in the future. Make sure and have a big cup of Patience before you dig into the front end - I can only imagine how bad your bolts might be after living in MI.

It's actually really not that rusty. The truck came from NJ and is surprisingly clean.
 


Shitty iPhone photo for now, but the lift is installed as of yesterday. It rides like a wallowing fat chick, tons of body roll haha. Part of that is due to the fact that both front sway bar end links broke when I went to take them off, so hopefully once those are replaced again it'll have some better road manners. The next step is some 265/75s and a front end alignment.

I'll grab some better photos here soon.
 
Looks great! That 10mm trim packer really gave you some rake. I did mine yesterday too and I found that the 5100 ride is about the same as the KYB gas adjust. Ya, fix the links and let us know how the ride compares.

Yeah I'm glad I went for the trim packers. I think I may have ended up with some negative rake otherwise.

Hopefully the endlinks solve my issues!2
 
I'm having a set of these in 265/75/16 mounted on Friday along with a front end alignment. Couldn't even touch the price they quoted me out the door anywhere else.
