good luck to you sir. This mid year release will be all show and no go (it definitely will NOT rival the Raptor)

As others on this forum have shown, one can likely build a 4R out for less money with higher quality components than Toyota will sell you this "TRD PRO" version for... I mean, what is it, some wheels, billstein suspension (maybe) and emblems... possibly a catack and CAI from the factory...

Looks sick, but what fun would it be if there was nothing to modify? If it's already top-of-the-line, I would feel horrible about tearing apart a great vehicle like that. Part of the beauty of the 4r is that no two users here have the same rig; it is my canvas.
 
The TRD PRO models will have upgraded shocks and coils and a spiffy badge. They might take a little bit of market share from the Raptor, but only from posers that don't know or don't care what "offroad" means.

The Raptor is actually a fairly mean setup, for a factory edition. I'd rock one.
 
Yeah, y'all are right. You could build one hell of a rig for what they will charge.

It's just that the older I get the more I am lured to the magic of an all-inclusive warranty....

Now if the TRD Pro came with the 5.7 liter V8 in the 4Runner, I'd order one in a heartbeat. One can dream. Sigh.
 
It'd take every single performance modification, including a supercharger, to get me to consider it one... and then after I had it for a month I'd probably still rip it apart... the guys with Raptors do.. to them, that's their canvas, its all relative based on ones financial means I guess.... I guess I'm getting old too because its almost starting to sound appealing. Almost. Haha
 
It's probably more of an appearance upgrade than anything else. They will have badges, different grill, wheels, tires, basic things.

Upgraded springs and shocks mean nothing. Majority of TE owners on here change out their springs and shocks anyways.
 
I saw this title n thought maybe he's getting an Xrunner.... I was like alright about time somebody on these forums talked about one.

I think this kind of move for Toyota is great. I mean, when was the last time anyone got excited about anything Toyota did? OOOOOO, new Camry!!! Whoa, the new Corolla gets amaaaazing gas mileage. Heck, even the people that review cars for a living can't wrap their heads around the 5th gen 4runner when driven against the legion of unibody mall wagons. In spite of the very niche market that the 4runner occupies, Toyota still offers it in a Trail Edition package with lockers, ATRAC, and KDSS to stay true to its offroad roots. Now this. Sure its mostly cosmetic but at least its breathing life into the 4runner, especially as the FJ bids adieu. Body on frame rugged SUVs are not long for this earth and I really do think Toyota wants to keep making these kinds of cars as long as the demand is there. Here is Toyota creating a little demand. Keep in mind that 99 out of 100 4runners sold will stay bone stock and most will never see more than a snowy road. I cast my lot with the 4th gen despite the opportunity to buy a 5th gen but I would love to one day see a 6th gen TE so whatever Toyota needs to do to pay for this dream, Im all about it.

Its funny you mention that, I was looking at my new dream toy (Mercedes G63 6x6 AMG) and was telling my co-workers, "That's an amazing platform to start with."

They were like, "Start with!? What the hell else is there to do to it?" I responded, "Well full metal front, rear bumper, tire carrier(s), winch, if those side steps aren't structural some beefy sliders, ect ect" and that was just stuff off the top of my head to "tweak" a $610,000 off-road monster of a vehicle. Some of us just think even a Ferrari can use some extra "help." :fro:

I echo your sentiments. I am a religious autoblog listener and I get soooo annoyed when they cast these legit 4x4's aside as "old" or "plasticky". Some of us don't/can't want to buy a $75,000 Audi S7 or a brown BMW wagon...
I am pretty sure that eventually all true 4x4's will go the way of the Dodo, which is sad for those of us who use them and would like the opportunity to buy a brand spank-me new one to play with. Oh well.
 
The Skid Plate looks nice, but it also looks like its far thinner than it should be. I wouldn't be surprised if its barely a 1/16" thicker than the stock unit.
 
If you look at a raptor and my friends dad has one they are just an upgraded f 150 theirs nothing to special about them overated alot more than people think its only about 9k more to get the raptor over f 150

Yeah, I'm sure its probably the same quality as an OEM skid plate. But I would love to see TRD make a heavy duty plate similar. I like the stamped logo.
