Fox 2.5 Coilover Owners, needing help with adjustment

Are you guys able to adjust preload/height with the shock mounted on the truck?

Recently had fox 2.5 coilovers installed on my SR5, with icon 2” coils in the rear. I thought I would happy with a leveled setup, but after a couple of day of driving I would like the stock rake back.

So I figured I should be able to make the adjustment myself and not look like an idiot by bringing it back to the shop for them to turn a collar. I jacked up the front end, removed, the tire, loosened the pinch bolt on the preload ring and attempted to turn in with the spanner wrench. I wasn’t able to turn it, so I loosened the pinch bolt a little more, its turning freely with little resistance, but I didn’t want to back it out all the way because I wasn’t sure it I could get the threads to catch again if I was to remove it all the way. I’m cranking left and right on the pre-load ring and it’s not moving either way, I didn’t want to crank on it so much that it messes up the thread on the shock body since the spring/coil is exerting pressure on the ring/threads.

Per the manual found on their site, it said that it is suggested to use a spring compressor when adjusting the preload ring. I tried maneuvering it every which way but the control arm is on the way and it’s just not possible to be used with the shock installed on the truck.

Guess my question is, are you guys able to adjust preload/height with the shock mounted on the truck? Unless I’m just being a little girl and not cranking on the preload ring hard enough, I’m thinking the whole shock must be removed, then use a spring compressor to remove tension on the preload ring so that it turns freely? Again, I didn’t want to crank on it so hard, that I risk messing up the threads on the shock body; the spring/coil is putting pressure on the ring which makes it difficult to turn

I searched on youtube, and I saw a video on adjusting Icon Coilovers, and the preload ring on that setup turns easy enough. Definitely not the case with the fox coilovers I have.

Any help and input is greatly appreciated

No it'll absolutely need to be taken out of the truck, installed in a compressor, the same is the case with my King shocks.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll save the job for another day when I'm off the whole day just in case it takes longer than I expect it to, seems easy enough.

Your truck/build looks amazing by the way!

Why not switch out to a 3in rear spring? Its what I am probably going to do since I have a slight reverse rake with a full tank of gas.

Mainly because it's my Daily Driver, and I am getting fairly close to hitting the warning chains at the parking garage at work for the top level parking. Otherwise, would give that some serious consideration. There is no regular parking available unfortunately.

Since the suspension will be out, and in an effort to save time, does turning right raise the truck, and turning left lowers it. Also does adjusting of 1" of thread equal the same change in ride height?

I'd like to avoid adjusting and reinstalling and adjusting and reinstalling.

It is sh!t. I did mine while they were still installed (up on blocks of course), it is a pain in the f'kn azz takes forever BUT possible (you need the spanner wrench). I really would prefer it had the two threaded collars instead of the one, like the older/other models. I almost can't wait to send these in, I am getting some work done on them.

Here is the install guide:

It's approximately a 2:1 ratio - you'll get 2 inches of height for 1" of collar movement. It's not exact, but pretty close. Ive found that KDSS causes some oddities also that I cannot totally explain but KDSS seems to require some adjustment over a period of time as the system rebalances or something. I had rear air springs for a period and constantly adjusted them to re-level side to side and then eventually removed them. I've adjusted my coilovers a few times to fix slight issues with side to side lean. I suspect it's something KDSS related because it's not symetrical but I cannot say for certain. In theory it *should* self equalize, so I can't say for sure if that's even the issue.
