Mods - Not sure where this belongs, but it's been a big PITA to find this information, so maybe we can add it to the suspension sticky somewhere?
Just thought I'd share what should be very basic information and easy to find parts - that were a big PITA for something simple. Hose size is written right on the damn hose and it still took 3 tries to get the right one.
Fox Factory 2.5 front Coilvoers
Hose - "13/32 or 10mm 100R5" Also commonly called "100R5-08"
Fittings- JIC size 8 ends or -08AN
Contrary to what I found by searching on other sites - -10AN/JIC10 is NOT the right size and 1/2"/12.7mm hose does NOT fit
(AN and JIC fittings are interchangeable, AN fittings have smaller tolerances in the specs, but both should work fine for this purpose -08 AN is the same size as JIC 8.)
I have Fox 2.5 RR Factory front shocks. I've had issues with a few things, mostly rubbing on the reserviors. My shocks were the early version from the 120 platform, so the primary difference is that they lack the second 90* elbow at the reservoir and are intended to be mounted along side the frame rail. That location rubs at steering lock with the inside of the tire with either 285s or my 275/60/20's on OEM Limited 20's.
Unlike most other shocks for the 4runner, Fox Factory series uses replaceable hose with compression style reusable fittings. Most of the info I found on Pirate primarily said that the hose size and fittings are -10AN size. They are not. Replacing the hoses is fairly easy and cheap if you can get the right stuff. The size is -8AN. The proper hose to order is 13/32 or 10mm hose and the fittings are r5-08 JIC fittings.
Yeah - it says exactly what the hose is on the side of the hose. Yet the first TWO times I bought hose - it didn't fit because they both gave me the wrong stuff. The first time was at my local "house of hoses" where they looked at it and gave me 1/2" / 12.7mm size. Obviously didn't fit. It was almost $100 for 6 feet of it. I never left the store. I just visually knew it was the wrong size. Went out and showed them side by side. They didn't have the right size. No problem. Didn't charge me. Then I ordered it from Hydraulcs Direct. 6 feet of 1/2 inch hose showed up. Double checked. What am I doing wrong here?? Not what I ordered. Called them. Just a mistake - usually people want 1/2" - then sent me the right hose overnight for free. Great service, but just accidentally shipped the wrong size that's more commonly used. 13/32 seems to be pretty rare sizing. Also - the hose can come in a variety of colors. Usually it's either black or blue. I think blue is more common. If that matters - you'd better call first. I don't care. Replaced black OEM with blue that showed up. And as a side note it's probably WAY overkill for this purpose. There's no reason to change to something lesser in quality, but the 100R5-08 hose seems about like using E rated tires on a bicycle.
Anyway - 6 feet of hose was about $35. I used a short segment to fix my one side fitment - but the ultimate plan is to mount the reservoirs on top of the fenders inside the engine bay. Easy, out of the way for every thing, and the cost to remote mount them is basically just a matter of making a few small brackets and time to route them into place.
For me in my garage that is well equipped with tools, but does not have a lift, it took me about 3 hours to remove the passenger side coilover that's been problematic, remove and replace the hose, bleed the air out of the shock and re-charge the shock, minor adjustment and re-mount the reservoir bracket, re assemble, and clean up and put away all the tools. If it's your first time plan on taking a bit longer.
