Frame at 220k

Hey guys,

I want to show you guys my frame. How rough is it for a 2000 with 220k? The rest of the other side is similar to this side. It's lived in the midwest it's entire life.

doesnt look too bad but definitely getting there. i am from california so i am not 100% sure on what works best for rust prevention but i have seen people who live in the rust belt that have very solid looking frames since they are adamant about rust prevention. check out this thread, it will teach you all about preventing further frame rust.

Get under there and look at the inside frame where the lower control arms attach. The tank and muffler are in the way but you can still peek. You will also see a line of rust at the bottom corner that goes almost all the way to the front. There is where is breaks open.

Check out fluid film and woolwax and start applying to inner and outer frame, behind bumper, under body, etc to prevent any further rust.

Also take a screwdriver and probe the bottom of the frame INSIDE the bracket. That's where the water puddles inside, and where the frame deteriorates first. My brackets looked about like these from the outside, until one broke off (not fun) and revealed the frame inside the bracket was like paper.

One of my family members put a jack on the gas skid plate, and bent it :sobbing:. I just noticed how it's barely hanging, so thats on the list for replacement. Damn

For the frame, I'm going to apply some rust inhibitor product, and treat it from the inside. I know it isn't too bad, but it's getting there.
