Frame Rail Thickness?

Does anybody know how thick the material used to our frame is? I need to pick up a little material tomorrow to take care of some frame rust. I already have some 3/16" at the house if that will work? Not sure if people use 3/16" or 1/4" for this?

I checked what I have at the house, and I don't have enough. I'm going to buy some new stuff that is already cut to the size I need. Would you go with 1/8" or go with 3/16"?

I would probably just go with 3/16". The stronger the better in my book.

I didn't take any pictures of this disaster, just couldn't bring myself to it! I got the section cut out that I felt was a bad section. Cut my new piece to fit nicely, and tacked it in place. When I start laying a bead on the rear most part; near the LCA mount on the passengers side. I was just burning holes through the existing factory frame. I ended up taking a slag hammer and slow began chipping away at the frame until I stopped punching holes through the frame. Needless to say, that point was a little more than halfway up the LCA mount. I ended up welding the entire front section with no issues, so at least that's taken care of. With the other section, I just patched over the rust. I really didn't want to do this, but it was the only choice I had, and it's only temporary.

Looks like this summer I'll be having some fun. I'll either end up swapping the entire frame or just build a new rear half, with a new 4 link set-up. :trophy:
