From Jeep to Japanese - '99 SR5

Without a doubt I'm looking for another 4runner - aside from the approximately $4k in 3rd gen 4runner suspension parts sitting in my garage right now, the 4runner protected me through a 70 mph collision. I've got a cracked sternum and am bruised up all over, but overall Im in pretty damn good shape and most importantly I have my life.
I'm walking without a walker already. The charge nurse at the hospital wanted to keep me one more night for observation, but I made a deal with her that if I could complete two laps around the floor that she would sign off on me going home. I spent a total of 14 hours at the hospital and made it home right in time to watch UCLA kickoff.
My biggest annoyance right now though is realizing just how much of a good deal I got on this 4runner when I bought her and I can't find anything similar ('99-'00, 6 cyl, auto, 4wd, around 150k miles) for less than twice what I paid for this one.

Watch CL in Phoenix. Clean, rust free ones come up all the time - and the prices seem to be going down...

Yikes, you are a lucky dude! That's super scary... I mean your driver's door is basically gone...
I was hit at 50 MPH by a 4Runner a few years back, my wife and I were in a Corolla. He ran a red and blindsided the front passenger's fender, cause his 4Runner to flip. He had 3 passengers, and no one was hurt. When we went to collect our things at the tow yard his 4Runner had a flat tire, a bent bumper and some scratches and that was pretty much it.
Yeah, they had to rip the drivers door off to get me out of the vehicle. The fun part of that was the 4runner ended up on a lean towards the drivers side with her nose in a telephone pole and the drivers door was acting as a keystone to keep her from ending up on her side completely. So, when they got the door off there was a little freefall and then they had to get me out of there asap before she went on her side completely. Good times...

Get well soon, and find another 4Runner. If you had any questions before this about the construction or durability of a 3rd gen...Now you know. Had you been in the Cherokee things may have turned out different!

Glad to hear that you survived the crash and are making a speedy recovery. 2 years ago I was rear ended badly while in my Grand Cherokee WJ. After seeing how much damage a 45 MPH impact caused, I swore I'd never have another uni-body SUV.

Correction, That does look like Thundercloud, Funny though the buyers guide lists only Topaz cladding...Maybe that's what it is.
I haven't seen another one like this in a while either, I think Dirtco might have had this combo. Honestly though, It is my favorite color on the 3rd gens...Lucky Lucky dawg...First you pulled an unbreakable with your last one, then found this beauty. Maybe go buy a lottery ticket while you're at it.

Yeah, fell in love with Dirtcos when I saw it. This one is a '99 in Autumn Blaze and Topaz with 162k on the clock.
Nice to be driving again (anxious at times, now) and really nice to be driving my own stuff, instead of wife's or father in law's rides. now to just get some free time and knock the dust off the parts in the garage...

I also went from an xj to a 3rd gen. While I do miss the xj's ability to have the front axle actually flex, I have to admit that the 3rd gen meets my needs now way better. Plus the 3rd gen is so much more reliable. That accident looks terrifying, but on the plus side you got an Autumn blaze metallic out of it. That is the best 3rd gen color.

Wow, that is by far my most favorite color. Super rare find! I had a friend who had one, then it broke down and he randomly sold it without telling me!!! I would have bought it in a heartbeat since I think that color looks so good.
