Front Bilstein 5100 shocks, FJ Springs, And Daystar 1.5" Rear Spacers Installed -Pics

Why would Toytec use the 5100's in their coil overs then?
id think thats because the 5100s in they're coilovers adjust differently (cranked up or down) than the 5100s used in this post, (snap ring) which i imagine is not as strong, & may not be suitable for use with firmer or longer springs. Bilstein 5100 Series Adj Shock

:iagree: I think it would be a little safer if the ring was at the first or second notch rather than the 2.5" notch, thus putting less stress on the snap ring. And it'll keep him from having to get new UCA's.

It means your alignment will be off and your tires are at risk of uneven wear. It also means your ride may not be as smooth as well.[/URL]

Just make sure you're getting rotations every 3,000. Or you could swing $400 and get new UCA's.

Talk about mis-information. Caster is what helps create high speed stability, and keeps the vehicle from wandering or tram-lining. Essentially your scrub radius is out the window. Adjustable UCA's resolve the issues mentioned above.

Caster doesnt really affect tire wear profoundly, and nor does it have anything to do with a smooth ride.

I agree totally. Toe and Caster will have profound wearing effects. Caster is stability.

Thanks for the info guys! I'm looking to buy some light racing UCAs to get the proper caster adjustment back. Also planning on getting the matching rear bilstein 5100, JBA headers, rage rack, arb air locker, light bar with lights and so much moreee :} (really just getting the rear 5100s :[ )

His front Toe is out of range. That's whats going to increase tire wear. That's what I was referring to. Caster is also off which will cause the vehicle to wonder. That's what I was referring to when I mentioned a smooth ride(maybe smooth is the wrong word). Not having to fight a bad stearing pivot angle.

But I'm by no means a mechanic so help me if this is wrong. Very much a novice and always looking to learn. Thanks.

man03999, have you noticed if the lift has settled any or is it still at around 4"?

Did I say you did? If it was an issue it would be there in print.

No, you didn't but I told you where i got the info and you keep looking elsewhere. If it was a recommended option for their shocks it would be there in print. Not trying to argue about it, just telling you what I was told by the company itself.

on most web sites including bilsteins , it shows the snap ring 5100 only with stock springs, id say an fj spring would be fine , it only provides an inch height increase, but since this model 5100 provides lift by preload, any type of lifting spring might make the ride too firm for some, not to mention putting it even further over the 3 in. lift mark & would require the new uca s, maybe diff. drop, etc. just my 2c.

okay to set this straight lets not argue about the FJ springs on the 5100's. The 05+ Tacoma, 03+ 4Runner and the FJ's are all the same part number for the front 5100's. So you could either use tacoma 4runner of fj springs and not have a problem. Who agrees with me?

Anyways It looks good man. I do suggest new UCA's I have light racing with 5" of lift in the front and a diff drop. Everything is in spec. My CV boots are fine for now. Just have around 2k miles on the lift and tires though.

But you did say this. "Any website that features the 5100's mentions that they are designed to accomodate the factory spring."

Any website except Bilstein's:thumb3: I have a lot of faith in Toytec and they seem to have zero problems with their coil-over set-ups.

Yes when I'm on the highway i noticed a slight pull to the right, I'n not sure if is the pavement or my car, but it doesn't have a issue in the city. The front did settle a little bit (37.6"), I didn't measure the back.

Yea for $29.99 that is probably a good thing to get If that could prevent the cv failure. Thanks for the link!:boink:

My response would be for you to read the post by Chaz (post 31). I never questioned Toytec.

And now that I think about it the Toytec setup is not the same as using a Bilstein 5100 and simply throwing on a different spring. They rely on adjustable sleeves. Not just a snap ring.

Toytec makes great stuff. big fan. Just got their body lift.

Good point Bangers Runner.

man03999... what's the clearance on the chassis, between the two lower control arms? That seems to be the lowest front part of a stock 4R, where I hit a rock and tore my skid plate right in front of the lower arm :(

Ouch that sucks... I will measure it tomorrow and let you know:bluejump:

If this same lift was installed, but using Toytec 1/4" topout spacers and lower the 5100s (so they're not maxed), would this be a better recommendation? Or is this basically accomplishing the same thing? (same strain on CVs).

If this is the case, wouldn't a differential drop prevent any problems

I'm going to install FJ Springs and Bilstein 5100s all around tomorrow (Sunday). I see that your front 5100s are set at the highest snap ring groove and you got 4" -- is that correct? If so, I'll probably just go with the 3rd ring.
