Front CV seal replacemetn

What are you guys using to seat the front cv seal? Dealer denied warranty coverage on both leaking seals. I replaced both and the passenger is still leaking. I just put them on the axle and put them in. what commonly available item would be suggested to do this right?

I bet your not getting the seals into the housing far enough. I usually use a hammer with light taps.

I would check the CV boot itself as the leaking oil usually comes from there. The bearing inside the hub is a sealed bearing and there should be no grease leaking out from the seal where the CV goes through the hub/spindle.
I just changed left and right hub bearings on my buddys Tacoma yesterday and have done it a few times before on FJ Cruisers, even though the bearings were bad there was minimal leaking going on inside the hub where the bearing is and not nearly enough to spill out through the seal.

Unless I read this wrong and you are talking about the seals on the CV side that go into the front diff?

I am getting pretty good at pulling the axle out now. Found a kit similar to the one posted above and set to putting a new seal in the other night. I pushed the seal in as deep as it would go as per some posts I read and bolted everything back up being especially careful not to mash the axle into the seal as I inserted it.

I don't know what is up with this seal but it is now leaking worse than before. It is dripping every few seconds once the vehicle stops moving.

Any tips or things I should look at? Dealer denied warranty coverage because of the lift so I do not want to take it back there. Figured this should be pretty simple.

I also replaced the driver side and it is holding up fine. I think the leak started when I was a little over zealous pressure washing it after my last 4x4 trip in June.

The only suggestion I have is to get a new seal and when you remove the axle this time take a look at the part of the CV that fits into the seal. I had this problem before on my FJC and went through about 3 new seals that kept leaking before I realized the axle had a little rust on it and kept breaking down the seal. You can wet sand it to remove any little birfs or rust. Not sure what else would cause the seal to fail so quickly.

I believe you are supposed to install the seal into the diff, it should seat itself into the diff to fit, but you'll need to tap it in gently and evenly.
I just remembered there are two different types of seals for the right and left sides, they are a different bore. But make sure you have the right seal part # for each side.

You went to far in. There is a happy medium that the seals has to go in to seal correctly. Usually it's flush with the inner lip of the housing.

Lifted truck, install not done by them so they said it was possible the angle on the cv shaft put pressure on the seal causing it to fail.

Likely it was me being over zealous with the pressure washer after my last trip.

After doing this a few times it is really pretty easy and only takes about an hour per side.

That how I started the first time but it didn't work. Got it fixed ow though! thanks for the suggestions!
